Okay, I have a Polaroid Sun 600 SE. It's from 1987 (50th anniversary edition). I think it has film in it. When I take a picture, it goes through the motions -- flashes and then starts trying to grind out a picture. But nothing comes out. I pulled the cartridge partially out, and there appears to be something in it.

So is sonething wrong with the camera or the film cartridge? What can I try to get it to spit out pictures? And is this film salvageable, perhaps?

I echo what Ben says; if the grinding sound you hear sounds sluggish, the battery power in the film pack might not be strong enough for the film to get ejected (from what you said I assume it came with the film pack it has now, and that is likely quite old). Or the film cartridge might in fact be empty. Try the camera with a fresh pack of film before giving up on it.

Brian, use a changing bag or your darkroom equivalent to take the film out. Then you can inspect the rollers. From I what I can tell with my SX70, the rollers are driven by the film cartridge so I'm guessing it's the film. I have a 600 One Step that a friend gave, I've not used it yet. I'll take a look at the mechanism.

Well darn! I paid $12 for shipping and it was USPS First Class, not priority.

Through the photojojo link, I think shipping was only $2.50. I'll have to go back & check. //photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/polaroid-impossible/

That is for USPS 1st Class post. The $6/11 through Impossible is USPS Priority Mail. Nice to have the shipping option. Thanks for the link.

Good. It was exceedingly expensive ($11). I think it was gimmick to get you to buy more film.

Actually it's three for two...

PX 70 First Flush Color Shade

It will work in 600 One Step, but as Kelli stated, you need to adjust the exposure. It's optimized for exposure in the SX 70.

From what I read, that film will work if the camera has a built in lighten/darken wheel or slider.

eta: If you're in the US order from the first link in the original thread. It's cheaper.

Two for one? A link?

Thanks for the link Karen. I've been enjoying his work this week.

My Impossible Project film arrived today. I'm interested to try out the the PX Color Shade/First Flush. You know you are in for an experience when it's a 2 for 1 deal. Anybody use it yet?

I also got a pack of their second run of the Silver Shade for my 600 One Step.

... Karen is fantastic at this.

Thanks for the compliment Ben, but I beg to differ - this guy does some really great stuff.

But I'll see if I can't try some more pola manipulation for October; I've actually got a number of things I'd like to try, so it might be hard to find the time to give them all a spin...

I ordered a couple of packs. I'm interested in trying the new Silver Shade, first batch was a disaster and made a mess of the rollers.

The PX 70 FF Color Shade Triple Pack looks like a good deal if the film remains intact.

Very good advice.

If I can find mine, I'll play. I used to love that crappy old camera, lol!

Where are folks getting their film? Is everyone doing the impossible? And if so, which cameras/films are you using?

Also, is there any way to confirm that this junk (600) camera I bought actually works? (That is, without taking a throwaway picture... at three bucks a pop!)

Unfortunately the battery in the film is what operates the camera - to know if it works, you must sacrifice a shot - but just make it a good one, it'll be ok! :)

I think that's the only place you can buy it unless you buy expired polaroid (found on ebay, but I think even more costly than the impossible stuff).
