109 yards. How many feet is that?

Last time I looked there was still three feet to a yard. Multiply it 3 x 109 = 327 feet.

And, relative to the precise constraints of the challenge:

1 foot = 0.3048 meters

327 feet x (0.3048 meters/ft.) = 99.6696 meters

OK, I've got that. Thank you but I was also wondering how many chains in 100 meter? Don't want to go beyond the boundary.

Answer: 100 m = 4.97095 ch.
OR 4 ch. and 64.08 '

Oh good, I have only four chains in the garage so I think I'll be safe.

Robert, your post just turned some gears in my head (very painful I might add) and I had this vision of a restricted distance AND real time challenge which would literally have to be a minimal SOOC challenge.

Wouldn't be cool if we all had wireless networks with either an EYE-Fi card or a wireless transmitter either natively part of our cameras or in a camera grip for instance where we were restricted to the distance our networks covered and we were able to upload photos in real time to DPC for minimal and literally a speed challenge. That would be really cool and interesting.

Of course the logistics of that would probably never come to fruition, but as I said...my gears were turning and that whole scenario popped into my head. I suppose you could also have your camera tethered to a laptop and connect to your network that way bypassing the need for an Eye-Fi card or wireless transmitter. LOL.

Yes, good point. If you happen to travel over a knoll or into the forest and can no longer see your house that could be deemed a DNMC, and might very well be grounds for a DQ. Hmmmmm....please be careful out there fellow DPC'ers. ;)

Yes, and just in case anyone has an underwater camera housing and has really deep water outside their home:

327 feet = 54.5 fathoms

I think we're covering most of the bases here. LOL.

More than 300. Less than 350. Does that help? ;-/

So does that exclude me or can I shoot within 100m of my caravan site? (this changes every couple of days).

If your caravan stops anywhere near Piha, you might want to give it a miss otherwise I think you should be okay & it will be great to read the comments in the "He was more than 100 metres from his home" thread that will follow when you ribbon.

Hey Alex, fancy meeting me at my "beach house" at Piha this weekend ;)

Excellent idea, I think I'll skulk around the neighbourhood doing some street photography! :)

Make sure you do this while driving a white van with blocked out windows.

I have the same problem, I can get some pretty awesome shots 100mm away from my house, but I may have to include a house or two in my entry just so people know it was taken from my neighborhood.

Excellent idea! Including some neighborhood context might be just the ticket. Usually, I work to exclude evidence of the encroaching civilization. But, for the purposes of this challenge, it might be a good idea to compose with traces of the human habitat.

I have the same problem as Richard and Jennifer...I get wildlife around me...this one taken 5 steps from my side door.

I don't even have to go five steps to get that nasty stare, in fact i don't even have to leave the house.

I'm just going to trust people on this one, what's life without trust. It should be interesting to see the type of environment we all live in.
