I have both the 40f2.8 and 50f1.4. Yeah the 50 is better apart as Mike says for a couple of newer bodies in video mode.... BUT that 40mm is a cracking lens (and I pre ordered and paid $200 and I still think that). I use it on my old 20D a lot INSTEAD of a point-n-shoot. I got it for the lack of size.... do I wish it was f2, focused faster, made me coffee in the morning - yeah but I wish I was smarter as well :-) |

the main benefit to this lens is the STM focus motor which is a plus when using it with a t4i for video recording, otherwise your 50/1.4 outperforms it.

I did notice Amazon had it for 150 new.
but I'm wondering is it really necessary with the 50mm f/1.4 prime I already have? |

the going price for a used canon 40mm pancake is almost twice that (about $140) ... buy it for that reason alone!
i have one, it's very sharp ... even wide open |

has anyone tried this lens out?
I was thinking of picking it up.
a friend of my hubby wants to get rid of his, says he doesn't have any need for it and it was only used a handful of times. he wants $75 or so for it?
any thoughts?
ETA: Its a f/2.8
sorry
