So here's the thing. If it were truly a popularity contest, then I think maybe I'd best rethink my continued tenure, because I'm just not all that popular, it seems.

So perhaps people do vote on the photograph, rather than the photographer. Think?
Look at the average score and rethink

Average score of what? (Not sure what you're getting at... ) My point was that DPC remained true to it's voting form for the most part.
The average score for the challenge was 6

Yes. I see that now. Ryan pointed it out, too. With names attached, I think everyone got a + 0.3 bonus (over what would be expected in a Free Study). In other words, instead of a 5.3, I got a 5.6, but still finished bottom 25%. Percentile held true, if absolute value did not.

Then mine would be a 6.6111-0.3=6.311 which far better then my FS average :) Might have got some 0. something for the exotic location hehe

It was a typical last moment entry... I got to some five star hotel in a certain city in China. I finished my work emails, grabbed grabbed the camera and roamed the surroundings of the hotel. The entry was my third shot. I did mumble a thank you to the guys and they laughed at the crazy foreigner. Then I rushed back to the hotel, processed the jpg (no raw recognised on me work PC) submitted and went to bed...

The surroundings were a bit scary

Anyway I was pleased not (necessarily) by the score but by the picture itself and the way I took it

I do dislike that I did not have the time to comment on this challenge but I am bad at that anyway :(

That's good really when you know that the average score of a life is 5.7, pleased you should be !

I thought scoring was overall higher than usual but not skewed. I had an average entry and scored 49%ile; but my score was 6.04 which "normally" would have put me at least 1-20%ile points higher, I think.

I think mostly the voting stayed true. I do think, though, that a lot of the voting was influenced by "in the style of *title*" voting. For example, P-A-U-L is well known for taking photos of cows, so his entry was expected from him (well known photographer, well known subject and style), and thus maybe a few more points from a portion of the voters. (take nothing away from a good photo, I must just add, it is but an example)

Either way, bias or no bias, I think the scores were a good reflection of normal DPC voting. And I loved this one!

On the contrary.. Even though I was 86th with my lame iPhone photo, I still was ahead of clearly more beloved and popular people on this site. In fact, I'd say all that were below me are.

So perhaps some do vote on the photo.

However, I have no illusions that had I shot my absolute best photo ever, there are many who would have knocked a point off (at least) because of the title. :) But I assumed that going in.

Oh yeah, I'm making so much progress on this -- 9 out of 96. I should be finished by next month.

Ok -- I'v been commenting as I go along, and it's taking forever. I hope people want straight forward comments. It just seems like a challenge where I hope people will say what they're truly thinking.

That was not my intent in the least and I apologize. I'm sorry.

I meant it only as a general critique of the way in which this challenge is set up, no more, no less.

Thank you, Mr. Spork. Much appreciated.

Indeed! I consider everyone here to be friends, and do plan to vote the entire challenge! Hope others do, too. Really is a lovely challenge. Props to whoever came up with this one.

More like rank your friends in the order you prefer them.
