The first team to 7 points won the cup. They sailed 9 races, of which NZ won 8. NZ started with a 1-pt negative handicap because USA earned an advantage by winning the preliminary series.

Yes, "the auld mug" is an affectionate phrase referring to the America's Cup, first won by the schooner America in a race around the Isle of Wight in 1851.

The "auld Mug" name goes back years, The Pommies most likely gave it that name as Auld = Old in scottish
But it has gone through a few reincarnations since then they race it in Funny little boats that can hit 70 knots so its a bit more exciting now

We could change the rules and make a change to waka's and paddles, that would stop uncle larry!!!!!

To celebrate this, I would like to propose a challenge " Sailing and Marine.Anything to do with ships and sailing.Salt or Fresh Water.
