With the On1 you have everything, the layers, adjustments, the healing tools, masking everything. It took me a good learning curve to get used to things but there are tutorials and Utube which helped me out tremendously. I can add sky layers flawlessly and the manipulation is so much easier than PS. I found On1 easier to learn than PS
I find it easier to get along with and for me, it just worked much faster and easier.

You can add your own watermarks and resizing as well

For the resizing, you just hit file, export on the right hand top a pop up will happen there you will add your watermarks, and resize and export how you wish. You can even set your own preset of exporting as well which is sweet.
I am using on1 now more than anything at the moment and it just jives so much nicer.

The one thing it does not do is actions like PS does. SO if you are an action kinda person, you won't care for On1 at all.

You'll love this ... I have a Mac-formatted 3TB disk plugged into my laptop running OS 10.4, which I'm able to mount over Ethernet on my G3 running OS 8.6 (not a typo). Everything works extremely normally, except that the write permission for open folders toggles on and off rather arbitrarily, and it's impossible to copy a file to a closed folder ... :-)

LOL, that is quite the odd behavior! The fact that you can mount it at all is a little surprising, but then Apple was ahead of their time with networking in the late '90s.

Aha! Good result. Confirms that a folder permissions issue was at the root of it. Wonder how the permissions got mangled?

It's a totally different animal with a completely different vocabulary and interface. Honestly, it's hard to recommend that anyone who's not seriously into this stuff make the switch, though I'd for sure recommend it to someone starting from zero... I just had to process my Buffet entry with ON 1, since CC packed in, and the processing part I pretty much know how to do but the devil's in the details; how to resize, how to save to a certain filesize, etc etc in this case...

If all else fails resizing etc can be done in GIMP. You don't have quite the same control over image quality but I guess it's not too bad for a free program.

Well, there's nothing to UNinstall since it's no longer listed as "installed", but I will go on a search-and-destroy mission next. Fortunately, if worse comes to worst I have a restore point that is recent (I think) :-)

Yikes!
From the error message it looks like somehow permissions on some folders may have gotten locked down. My course of action would be to uninstall again, and clean all vestiges of the application from the machine, including any remaining folders. Then try a re-install. I recently had a go-around with some Logitech software that was misbehaving and refused to uninstall itself. I used a product called Revo uninstaller to successfully remove it. Revo will remove even the system registry info for the app. I did have to run it twice, the second time with additional settings, in order to have success.

I'll confess to total ignorance on the subject of the ON1 product. I looked over their web page a little, and it seems to me to be most like Lr in functionality, not a "Swiss army knife" of editing like Ps. It's true that the bulk of my images never touch Ps these days, but I also cannot imagine being without the depth of features that it provides. That is most especially true for the more technical aspects of my photography, e.g. panoramas, focus stacking, astrophotography, etcetera.
FWIW, Adobe recently surveyed users as to what improvements were most important to them in a next major release of Lr, so I do expect that Lr will see some value-added improvement. How soon is an open question.

You can get On1 for free right now..
Give it a whirl I still use NIK for its Black and white conversions but other than that its all on1.

Yeah, that is what it was doing to me as well. I even uninstalled and installed it.

With the On1 it does work with photoshop and lightroom or you can use it as alone program. try running it through On1 to see if you have that issue.

Thanks for sharing. I've occasionally used ON1 as a plug-in but after reading this thread I'm going to give the stand alone version a try.

Reading all these problems makes me really glad I've been too stingy to upgrade from Photoshop CS5.

I will try that. Thanks, Fritz.

Driver update seems to have solved my issue. Given that Ps was the only application that was having any issues, I strongly suspect that it was an update to Ps that buggered things. If that is the case, might also be what's buggering Mark's plug-ins. In his shoes, I think I would uninstall and reinstall the plug-ins; might be necessary to ensure they are completely removed prior to reinstall.

Still not fixed. Argh. Plug-ins like Nik tools are not working consistently. I rely heavily on them. Probably too heavily.

I LOVEEE On1!!
That issue what you were having Mark is exactly why I stopped using it.

I just got on1 and I even stopped using photoshop all together and even lightroom is less and less, ( am now using just the full program of 6 and not the cc) because it just does not give the editing options On1 does.
Its like the all in one editing without having to jump back and forth and you can stay in one program editing and getting things done.
I upload a folder and bam I do my own settings and make a preset and that way I can apply it to the rest of my iamges the export it out super easy.
One1 is phenemonial. Right now I just use the photo and not the raw, I am seriously starting to think about upgrading to the RAW.

I have had nothing but problems the last 6mo with the CC and them even deleting my catalogs and photoshop. All my drivers and everything was updated as well,
I was even having the same issue as well. I was fustrated with it so I dropped CC and the monthly charge like a fly and a dry hat. (Adobe reimbursed me for the whole year too)
I am glad to hear yours were fixed wtih the update and driver though!

I've been trying to update CC and it aborts mid-stream because it says it can't move a certain file. I forget which one. When I ask for details, it suggests I should delete the file and then try again, which I'm currently resisting for obvious paranoid reasons. Next time I try I'll note the name of the file. I'm in no hurry.

Besides which I'm seriously considering dropping out of the Photoshop spiral and living full-time in ON 1 world...

I spoke too soon. After updating the driver, psd files opened ok, but I still had problems with jpg and opening images from the RAW editor.

So, thanks to Fritz's post, I tried turning off GPU processing and things seem to be working again. I hope...

Thanks, Georges, but that isn't the problem I am having. If I open a jpg or psd file, instead of displaying the image I get an all black window. If I open a RAW file, it looks fine in the RAW editor, but when I select Open File I get the all black window. I have not yet had time to check my graphics driver (I hate it when stupid work interferes with my photography hobby). I was going to attempt to roll back the system to before the PS update, but apparently I have no restore points (argh).
