"Legal" is a touchy word. It wouldn't be right, though. We generally extend the id3ea of "outtakes" to include NOT posting options for the challenge about to roll in, before it does. It's best if everyone just plays it cool and doesn't talk about possible approaches to fulfilling challenges etc while the challenge is on the boards. It rubs a LOT of people the wrong way, and I don't blame them.

OFFICIAL RULING: As far as DPC is concerned, you don't have to have entered the challenge to have "outtakes". If you think about it, that's logical. "I missed the deadline to submit, but here's what I would have put in!": how's that NOT an outtake? Posting any image challenge-topic-related-and-tagged is a breach of etiquette while voting is going on. We don't consider it a deadly sin, so to speak, but we WILL hide the errant image until voting is over.

I think it's an official thing... not only an etiquette thing.

I once had a post/image removed from a thread by SC during voting even though I'd not entered the challenge.

Seems fair to me.

Do not influence voting in any manner.

I never thought it really would make a difference, but I remember it happening once, where the outtake posted during voting was so much better than the entries, that it really showed them up. :)

Yes, I remember several discussions about this and agree that it's just not good form to post something challenge-related or possibly challenge related during submission or voting periods. I thought we had a DPC Etiquette post somewhere that touched on this.

Meanwhile, back at the dump...

Ummm ... probably just as well because you're not supposed to post "outtakes" while a challenge is currently in the voting stage.

Is it still an outtake if it wasn't entered?

If there's no entry isn't it just a random image?

Originally posted by vawendy:

It's still considered an outtake. Best to wait until the challenge ends and post it then. :)

I'd kind of like a ruling on that......seems kind of strange if there's no entry, what difference does it make? It's not like it could possibly affect anyone else's entry.

I'm really glad I didn't enter this in adult toys. But whacky enough to want to play.
Basically a self portrait though....my statement of not entering lately as I'm always scraping bottom. Lololol

btw are workshop pictures public to other members?

I always think of how I could have made it better, but I don't usually go back and do it. I just try to remember for next time. :)
