I lowered his ears tonight!!! The boy hasn't been home in weeks...Glad he could stop by, told him if he need a place to come back to when he heads home to just let us know...I might even be able to cook him a real meal...by then he'll be happy to have anything home cooked!!!

That sounds terrible, what did you do to that poor boy.

Ohhhhhhhh Ken!!!! You’ve been called out!!! Snicker!!

Yeah, I literally felt her tugging on my ear.

Heck, she never even TALKS to me anymore, she's so embarrassed about losing Karma all those years ago ;-)

One of the greatest and humiliating life memories of meeting my 1st ever DPc'er, will go to my grave telling everyone that story. =) =P

Edited to add: and I have done so at least once every 2 years on DPC, but we do have a bunch of newbies since I last told it, so maybeeeeee.................. LOLOL

I think out Preferences should allow us to appoint 3-10 members/users as a "personal" jury, whose aggregate score could be displayed on our entries (at least as displayed to ourselves).

But of course that would take major coding ...

instead, we put together a philosophically diverse judging panel ... and they were the only ones allowed to vote.

What do you think would happen?
Would people leave?
Would people be satisfied with the result?

That (in several permutations) is actually an idea that's been batted around a number of times over the last 7-8 years. To some extent it has been occasionally implemented during various "Fine Art" challenges, with an "official" jury impaneled and giving out special awards alongside the usual member-voted ribbons. But in general, the idea of some sort of "official jury" to replace popular voting has been anathema to the community.

Good for the occasional challenge, but would probably KILL any league activity, IMO.

No -- but they wouldn't be "satisfied" no matter what the proposition. :-(

Yeah, I agree. Could be as simple as 100% team participation in both DPL challenges = X. Or X points for each. I like the all or nothing concept.

I would hate compulsory commenting and the issues around that have been discussed ad nauseum, so let's not go there. But as mentioned, voting is critical to keeping this site, and especially DPL, alive. Also, more voting inherently elicits more comments.

All that said, it's too late for this current season, but calls to team captains to encourage their teams to vote seems reasonable. I'll personally commit to a 100% voting goal and will encourage my team to vote every challenge.

One of the leagues we got a .5 bonus point for all team members participating...I’d like to see this added back in the future.

Giving bonus point(s) for voting isn’t gonna fly...unfortunately....how would you implement that...we’ve barely gotten the coding done for this (Thank you SC!!!!)...true but realistic...best thing now is to encourage teammates to vote at present...ask each of your teammates if they’ve voted...encourage that application...I know our team is.

Yep, there was "The Photography League" or TPL for short. There were 3 seasons, two in 2013 and one in 2014.

Thanks, Mark!

Bonus would be better than penalty. People would respond to that whereas as soon as you start taking penalties, right-brain people dig their heels in on principle.
