Yes, he'll custom make one for you, and it's not cheap. I think most of the appeal is in watching it do its thing.

Not only can you use it for black and white, but you're at an advantage because you can use it to dial in different color filtrations to control your contrast (as opposed to using filter above or below the enlarging lens). Some reading is in order, but the short answer is: absolutely!

Thanks for all the advice.

Many years ago I D&Ped B&W in a garage, it was fun but those days are gone.

If I had the time, I would've fully dove into the deep end on film, but time just haven't been on my side. I picked up a free enlarger and everything. There are tons of resources online to find info on how to do it if you've got a bit of time and aren't already swamping yourself with projects. In the US (for others who may read it) last I knew my Walgreens was still providing big box film processing and scanning. Is it the best quality? No, but for somebody looking to dabble, it does the trick to get you hungry.

I realize it's not for everyone, but there's nothing quite like pulling a freshly developed, glossy wet color print out of a print drum.

Mine were scanned (albeit in low res jpeg) at Jessops Neil - but, it's an hour turn around. Bought the film, shot it, took it in, had some lunch, picked up prints, negatives and a disc of jpegs.

A negative scanner runs to about £180. I may buy one, I'll see.

I can't speak for the others but most people are scanning their negatives (or having their lab do it). I develop and print everything at home, so anything you see from me is a scanned print, usually on 8x10 paper.

A few drugstore chains (in the US) still develop 35mm color negative film, but I wouldn't trust them with anything important. If you're in a big city, you might find one or two places that still offer professional film processing. For most of us, though, the good labs are mail-in (Dwayne's and North Coast come to mind), though once you add in shipping both ways, it can add up fast.

Developing black and white film is neither hard nor expensive. Color's a bit more involved but doable, and certainly cheaper than mail out. Lots of options though...

Yeah that was my fault wanted more dof but forgot on my digital I was shooting 1.4 but walking with dog two cameras and the Mrs who is in second shot forgot to change aperture, these are my first medium format ever so I'm pleased with them it'll be going in the bag every time I go out, I need another back for multiple films on go, and is like a wider lens than the 85 2.8 I've got waist level viewfinder would be nice as well

Loving it though

Agreed- the second shot is magnificent, and, while I'd disagee with the DoF on the next couple shots of aspens, the color is wonderful.

They look great Paul, love the softness. I suspected that was a big open lens in your reflection.

Those are nice, Paul. What are you shooting with?

It's a Canon 7sZ with (dare I admit it) a 50mm f/0.95 lens. I shot it wide open for all the shots, hence the somewhat missed focus!

I felt the lens deserved an outing on the camera it was made for before it goes off for conversion.

Both the camera and lens came in the original case, with straps and the lens come with original hood (with its own original case) and the original skylight filter (with its own original case) - and the manual!
