Brand spanking new Canon 70-200. Records video but absolutely no images and other lenses work fine. Can't find anything on the web that pertains to a new lens doing this. Any ideas outside of just sending it back. I've already erasered and cleaned the contacts. |

Just send it back and ask for an expedited return. Maybe you do fix it somehow, but would you ever fully trust it? |

Yeah, I actually said pretty much those same words right after I decided not to smash it against the wall. |

Have you tried smashing it gently with a large hammer? |

I took a glass cutter to the rear element and that didn't help at all. |

It may not be the lens, on my ex-40D it was the shutter-box that needed replacement.
But then, after it was stolen and recovered nothing was really okay ever again. Replaced the shutter-box, repaired the hot-shoe.... So I eventually emotionally divorced her. The scars of her infidelity will be with me forever. I could not trust her ever again, good point from giantmike, so I divorced her for a 7D.

I would consider that doc but it's not doing this with the other lenses. I just bought this 70-200 brand new, stuck it on the camera and it wouldnt' let me adjust aperture. I then pressed the shutter and got the error. Stuck the other lenses on and they work with no problem.

Did you get a zero reading on your aperture? |

Got the same error yesterday half way through an all day wedding job :(
Not a new lens... was on my Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM that I've been using for almost 3 years solid. Other lenses are fine. Just trawling the web for answers before I take it in for the "professionals" to look at. Hopefully can fix it before my next wedding job on Saturday.

my 30D did this to me one time. i was shooting a wedding and switching lenses alot (don't remember why i was doing that, but i was).
I cut hte camera off, took the lens off, cleaned the contacts a bit, and put it back on making sure that I had gotten it on securely. did okay after that |

Having the same problem with the same lens (and also approx. the same age). Cleaning contacts didn't help yet :( |

Cleaning contacts didn't help. Have sent it in to have it looked at (free quote). Should get a call soon I hope. |
