Just a note for the many facebook users here...you might want to strengthen your facebook passwords if they are weak. I know three people that have had their accounts hacked in recent weeks, and mine was broken into last night. I just didn't think facebook mattered enough to put in a real secure password, but these days, so many things are "connected" to Facebook logins.

It looks like all they are doing is trying to use social engineering, they break in to your account, then "invite" all your friends to a special "event" or to use a product. But who knows what would be next.

Same goes for DPC too, of course!

Out of curiosity, what was your password? Was it something someone could figure from your limited public wall or just something easily guessed in general?

I dont facebook, but my wife does, and her accound got hacke, she a had a four letter pet name.

Im guessing the used some of brute force attack to run all kinds of passwords and since it was simple they got in.

Simply adding some Caps, numbers and even better punctuation to a 6-8 digit password can make it nearly impossible to crack.

I use a foreign (but easy to remember) word with unusual caps and numbers added to it. I have never been hacked.

Not everyone uses a good password. I started a forum for a local group, and one woman complained that it wouldn't let her use the password she wanted. She was trying to use her real name as the user name and the password.

Ah... the first method that most hackers use... directly ask what the password is. I suspect Melethia of this facebook scam :P

My p/w is 10 characters of random mixed lower and upper case letters, numbers, and symbols. It'll at least withstand brute-force attacks. Until someone invents a quantum computer anyway.

This type of hack is usually done by clicking on a "video" or other link. My sister's password was
dit4xry876cutog and she was hacked. However, it was found that she clicked on a video posted by a friend that said "you look great in this video".

I can't imagine someone guessing that crazy password.

Yeah, I don't think people (or computers) are going around trying to log in using usernames and passwords - that's why I asked. I suspect there are links that are doing the hacking somehow.

My facebook password was randomly generated years ago for another application. I'd never guess it in a million years if I didn't already know it.
