I saw these two articles the other day and wondered if anyone had ventured into one of these? I really think it would be awesome and nifty to take photos, especially in the ones abroad.

8 Abandoned Theme Parks Abroad “Open” for Exploration
8 Abandoned American Theme Parks “Open” for Exploration

I'm hoping this will compel someone to explore one of these and return with some good photos. Cause I'm definitely too lazy and scared and don't live close enough to one to make a whole trip out of it.

I've wanted to explore Six Flags, New Orleans for a while... do some model shoots there... but I lack the testicular fortitude or the armed escorts. Nonetheless, I really don't cherish the idea of going to jail in New Orleans.

I was hiking and I found this little lot .. I wish the rides hadn't been dismantled and trashed. A ghost amusement park is made of win.

One of my pictures is on that list. Lincoln Park is a small park with a wooden coaster as it's centerpiece. Most of the rides are long gone, and there are only a couple buildings left.

I went in late winter and I need to go back when there is some greenery to contrast with the graying wood.

Don't know of any decaying amusement parks in Ontario, but over in Quebec there is an abandoned racetrack, the Aylmer Hippodrome. Would love to get access and go shoot there. Oh and there is an shut-down correctional facility not far from me, another cool potential location.

Well, I don't know if we have an abandoned theme park (and LA is often confused with being one itself), but we do have an abandoned zoo, and I too pictures of it for a sc a while back.

While I use abandoned properties quite a bit... it's not something that should be done light-heartedly. There are all sorts of legal ramifications that are often jurisdiction specific. Everything from liability and concerns to criminal trespass, not to mention safety issues. I know in Alabama, there are three degrees of trespass ranging from Class A misdemeanor to merely a violation. Luckily, I know 2006 Alabama Code - Chapter 7 better than most local police.

Not sure it'd be the best challenge idea, considering the global nature of DPC. We don't want members imprisoned or shot or otherwise mangled.

Uh, no. But perhaps a falling-down barn on a country road, or a boarded-up house on a city street, or a storefront with empty windows... I hope the high intelligence level of our players would come into play in assessing trespassing with anything other than a long lens.

We have an abandoned railroad tunnel from pre-civil war. It's pretty cool.

There is one near me, but it's decayed to the point of being gone.

Here's a flickr stream from before it started to get carted away...pretty neat stuff.

Just be careful. If there are any signs up saying No Trespassing, Private Property or No Entry, I won't go near any form of abandoned property. If I do find one sans any kind of signage and/or obvious efforts to keep people out (ie a locked gate, high fencing etc) I find the nearest house and if someone is around, ask who owns the property and if I could have permission to go take photos, knowing I am doing so at my own risk. Often I jokingly point out that I am not carrying a gas can and box of matches with me, just a camera.

So over the roughly last 2 years my partner-in-crime and I only got chased off, once, out of approximately 8 different locations. In that case there was no signage up or gates/physical barriers, but a relative stopped by and gave us an earful.

Apart from that one incident, there has been no difficulty in shooting abandoned barns, farms, houses etc at least in my area.

Same here Snaffles...and whenever I heard someone coming, I turn sideways to them so they can't see me ... I find that helps a whole bunch.

Tanguera... That stairway at the abandoned zoo looks familiar, is this the same abandoned zoo that they filmed one of the Police Academy Movies at?

I think Mephisto has been to either the one in Berlin or the Ukraine. I recall seeing pictures of his of it, and he's done a lot of abandoned areas that are incredible. I thought it was him, but it may have been somebody else, but I'm pretty sure there were photos of them up. Maybe Zigomar? Anybody else remember?
There's some weird small abandoned waterpark that's on the highway from LA to Vegas on the north side of the road that I've seen.

I couldn't tell you, I've never seen the movie. But if it was shot in LA, most like it is - we only have one abandoned zoo :-)
