Joined to get myself out there shooting more... I went out and shot for this challenge... didn't get anything I was WOWed over but submitted it anyway. I did however get a great shot that I entered into another challenge while I was shooting for this one that will hopefully do better. We will see, either way, I am out there more, looking around and using my camera! Love comments, don't know what to change if no one tells me... hope I don't offend anyone with my comments... I am NOT a professional but really love to put my input... I make the same comments on my own work most of the time!

why? your first one is great. plus it got a 6.4.

Sorry, I meant my very first challenge entry 3 or 4 years ago - the clown one. I cringe when I look at it. And my second entry a couple of challenges ago, the pipes one, the editing went wrong and I messed it up. And I just don't like it. So I want to replace those two with better ones. Meat guy is my first one that I love.

Thank you for the compliment! :)

1. "Voter Fatique" because going through the sheer size of a same subject is no small feet..er feat.

2. Monitor calibration - the photographer can rest assured that their entry will NOT be seen the same as what they themselves saw.

3. Voters registering their displeasure with 'subject matter' and/or composition.

4. Voters just not 'getting' the elements of the composition. The 0.0000000000012 sec voter is a subsection under this category.

I think that about covers what the shoe er score fits.
Not thrilled with the direction the score is going but satisfied with my entry.

Comments: 1 <--------a total mystery into what it means.

Going through voting and taking it in chunks is an excellent suggestion.

EDITED TO ADD

Ah, yes definitely feeling the love from the string of 2's 3's, and 4's .....

::Peers at score::

YIKES!...my empty shoes are definitely more half empty than half full.

I loved voting on this challenge. So many photos had emotions. I haven't been around much but when I saw the challenge last week I made a point to come back and vote just because I love shoes. I don't remember ever giving so many 8, 9 and 10's.

Another brown contender for me. Hopefully I win this one. I am not a fan of "staged" or studio shots so I debated whether to enter either challenge this week. Looking at my scores I probably shouldn't have. The low scores wouldn't bother me so much if people provided feedback as to why they voted low. I had 3 comments on my Street Photography challenge which I knew wouldn't do well but all 3 comments were positive and the average score for commenters was 6.3 compared to the overall 3.9 I received.

I get up to a nice range, then I get 2s & 4s. (the 3s were earlier today). Lots of ups and downs in this one. (Although I'm not surprised, I like the ups better. :)

well, apparently they were awe-struck by your photo and just couldn't put their wonder into words ;-)

(and if it makes you feel better, this comment gave me a belly laugh)

I have effectively put the voters to sleep!

At 80 votes, my score is only .0375 higher than the very first vote.

ZzZzzzzzzzzzzz...

I've decided once again to comment on each photo. With almost 200 in this challenge it may take a while. After all I can't complain that I don't get feedback if I don't give feedback myself.

Well don't know if that is good or bad in my case LOL - Been receiving a string of 3's and 4's

Not a single comment....well there is the one but nothing there and I see that I am not the only one who has received such attention.

I think I am most disappointed that there has been no commentary with regards to ...ah pfeh. Tomorrow is another day. Going to finish baking the mini cupcakes.

with all those photos of lonely shoes, it's hard to get some happy voters :(

The votes on my entry are all over the place. The last 5 votes were: 4, 7, 1, 5, 6. Come on voters, I need a 10 to offset that 1.

Your thoughts echoed mine. It could well be that the restrictions placed [b&w, no feet], and the extra information given [lonely shoes etc] resulted in a one-way-street line of thought from most participants.

Making B&W sing is also a skill, obtained by practice and looking at other images [i.e. same story as all other skill improvements] so I'm glad the restrictions were there. This leads me to ask the more advanced B&W operators to improve the standard by commenting on a lot of the entries.

I like my entry, mainly for the idea it represents, but it is a shoe-in [pun intended] for the brown. 4.111 and diving, but with 5 very nice comments and one fav.

edited to correct language mistake.

Your right about that and I didn't realize that it was a b&w challenge till AFTER I shot. My image really wasn't one given to b&w and I'm sure explains my score. I thought about doing a re-shoot. I should have.

I just had a 4 followed by a 2 vote. When I did have the time to track the numbers I did see one '7' among the bunch (the highest score I've seen) - a few 'got' it... maybe appreciated it.

I do appreciate the 2 very favorable comments that have come in though they do not reflect an explanation behind the score.

Since I cannot hope to get full explanation of the poor reception til after voting (and I don't know if I will bother) I will seek it myself in the form of a re-shoot to do a compare and contrast.

Edited to add:

Forgot to mention I did go through some of the entries and yes, very easy to get 'voter fatigue' and a sense of disillusionment at the quality.

Stats: You have rated 47 of 195 images (24%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.1277.
