I am not sure if this was suggested before, probably I did in the past and forgot about it... since we have masters challenge, we also should have "none ribbon winner" challenge. Open, with advance editing.

...and to make it more interesting, one other rule should say "Challenges Entered must be above 30, not including this one"

It has been suggested several times over the time I've been here, and always the rap against it is "I want to win my ribbon fair and square, competing against the best!"

Personally, I've always been intrigued by the idea of skill rankings and challenges pegged to them. I'd like to see shooters ranked in A, B, C groups based on some sort of skill rating. When you pass a threshold you can no longer compete in a lower group, but you can always compete in a higher group.

So, for example, if the rankings were based solely on ribbons (win a ribbon in a group and you graduate to the next group) then non-ribboners could compete in any group, but those who have ribboned in C, B, or A can no longer compete in C, and those who have ribboned in B or A can no longer compete in C or B. This is loosely based on how they do amateur golf tournaments at the local level.

But it's complicated, it would lead to a lot of angst, and I'm not sure in the end it's a workable, or even desirable, approach.

Why would you recommend a challenge in which you cannot partake?

There's also the issue of balance. If you have a 'fluke' good picture, you are forever denied the lower class, even though you may not be ready to move up.

A good example of balance may be found in Mario Kart Wii online. You're assigned a 5000 starting score, and depending on how you do, your score increases/decreases. The score then helps the system pit you against other players of the same score (or skill). If you find you're getting rocked by players with 8000+, your score goes down until you reach a point where you can compete with players at your new score.

There is a masters challenge allows only ribbon winners up to 3. I think it is only fair to have this kind, for none ribbon winners. And yes, I am suggesting something I can't enter. I am very curious to see who would win and see their work. I don't enter every challenges here, so, this could be one of them.

Interesting to see that at a casual glance I can only identify 4 of the top 20 as still active...

As a perennial "also ran", I'm good with the way things are. If I never get a ribbon, I'm OK...

If I do happen to stumble into an amazing capture, then I sure has heck want to whip every last one of you. ;-)

...however, it's not a Free Study. A free study would probably be better.

Still better than the Master's Challenge that ran at the same time. Only one of the top 20 has entered a challenge this year.

I'm almost 800 challenges more perennial than you and I agree ...

Its still not technically a free study the one done before. I like this idea!

It means 3 people will defienetally win their first ribbons :D

Is there a good rule for parsing this kind of grammar?

I have none ribbon

Soon I may not have none ribbon

On the other hand(!)

I have some ribbon
