So perhaps this is no big deal to you popular folks on Flickr, but I made Explore for the first time, ever!!!! In one day, I've had 443 views and 25 comments. That may not seem like much, but my prior highest viewed/commented image took about 4 months to reach those numbers :-)

It was actually a shot for supermoon.

What a ride! Now if someone could just figure out how they choose the images they post...

Glad you didn't enter that one. :) Very nice.

Congrats! I've never had an image on Explore. It's something about how many views and comments you get but it can't be in too many groups or have too many of the comments from your contacts or something like that.

Karen, there are whole threads dedicated to trying to figure it out. So far, people have made Explore breaking all of the rules you just mentioned. No one knows. It's a secret as closely held as Google's algorithm :-)

Congrats, great photo. It is a mystery as to what criteria makes it onto explore. I've had one make it and I have no idea how that happened, didn't have many views or comments or favorites.

Congrats. That is a great photo. What day did it make Explore?

I've often wondered how one even knows that their photo has been chosen for Explore. Do they send you an email in your flickr account? Is it noted in your photostream?

You don't get notified but someone who comments on your photo might say they saw it in explore. I check this site to see if I've made it. So far no.

Thanks for the link Karen! I found out 4 of my photos were in Explore back in 2006.

Not sure what criteria is included in the secret sauce. I've had 78 photos explored up till now. Some of them are photos that got a lot of views, comments and faves, while others got explored quickly with very little activity. I think there is also a human element involved in the selections for explore. No evidence for that, just my gut feeling.

One thing that does make a difference is the groups you post your photos to. Groups that are designed for sharing are fine, but there are also groups that exist to generate comments and faves, and boost activity on your photos. General opinion is that the latter type actually works against getting into explore.

Yeah, secret sauce, indeed. There are an endless number of hypotheses, but no one knows for sure.

I found out because someone who left a comment said that they'd seen it in Explore. Otherwise, I'd be oblivious. So thanks, Karen, for the link. Now I'll just be obsessed about something else.

Since I posted this thread, I now have 539 views. Incredible.

ETA

Just checked that link, Karen, and it turns out I had another image on Explore last year :-)

36 photos in explore between 2006 and 2007, nothing at all since then. Highest ranked photo, No 42.

Didn't notice until now, but it's at #29. Don't know if that's the highest it's gone. The other one was #297. Hah! Just noticed the first two numbers are the same :-)

I am so easily amused...

I'm wondering how they're going to rank the next one at 2.9 ... ;-)

That's a beautiful photograph. Who knows what the secret sauce is.. but just now, Flickr says there were over 5000 photos uploaded in the last minute. Making the daily 500 is a rare feet. Congratulations!

Sniff. I'm a nobody on flickr.... (wanders off to lick wounds...)

'Grats to all you explored peeps! (Sounds vaguely alien.)
