Thanks, Richard.... I wonder if the tentative one is the youngest. The third hatched several days after the other two. We've been in NM the past several days to be with our daughter for her surgery.. Didn't have a chance to check in. A lot happened while we were gone.

EVERYbody is on a branch now, with a parent nearby, who just dropped in and is apparently available for flying lessons.
One of the eaglets flew-walked back to the nest a couple of times, and then flew from one branch to another.
Amazing.

Wow, when I switched on a few minutes ago three were in view. Then two disappeared. Since then those two keep coming and going. My internet is too slow and jerky for me to see exactly what is happening, but they're flying somewhere.

So cool seeing this...all three of them on the branch. Screen capture off U-stream and enhanced slightly.

I've bee watching on and off all morning. First there were just two on the branches, then one of those started flying strongly up and down into the nest. Only one of them is still tentative about exercising those wings and that one is getting stronger all the time.

Finally, a note came up on the bulletin area: "FIRST FLEDGE CONFIRMED, 6/18/11. When Bob (Anderson, the director) was at the cam around 9;00 today he saw only 2 Es in the tree. An h our later he saw the 3rd E "flying strongly" east toward the nest. no one witnessed the fledge. All 3 Es are now in thE nest tree."

(Dang, can't cut n paste that info, so that's my rusty typing)

Most of the time I've been at my computer now, there have only been three birds in the tree, one of which appears to be Mom. Then the fourth appeared for a few minutes. He was standing and flapping his wings when my picture froze (as it does every few seconds). When it started moving again, he was gone, and he certainly wasn't facing in the direction of the nest.

The other two just disappeared. Mom came back to an empty tree. I'm not sure in which direction the young ones went - they were facing away from each other and neither seemed to be facing the nest.

Edit: Now both parents are in the tree and there are occasional signs that there is at least one young one in the nest. I wish they would change the view so we could see what's happening with the young ones.

Just the two parents out on the branch right now. At least one of the younger ones in the nest because it keeps popping up in front of the camera. Not sure if one or two of the others ones are in the nest or out flying around.

For those of us who are still enchanted by those Decorah Eaglets.

We have watched them wingdance down the branch into the safety of the nest. We have watched them jump-fly to the branch next door.

Now? #2 eaglet fledged today.
the video is here and you must wait for over a suspenseful minute for liftoff.
Lovely.

Thanks for posting the link to the video, sfalice. At least I can download that and watch it without all the jerking.

A couple of times today they showed one of the little ones sitting on the roof of one of the buildings. He sure is getting adventurous already.

There are reports saying the cameras will be turned off by the end of the week. I'll be really sad to see them go.

A nice statement from Bob Anderson, the Raptor center Director is here along with a history of this season's eaglets. And more...

When I looked just now, two of the eaglets were sitting on that branch.

What a gorgeous experience this has been.

Thank you for the link, Alice. I have become so accustomed to checking in with these babies every morning and every evening (and many times in between) that I will truly miss them. They have become such a part of our "family talk" that even my kids out of state who apparently don't have time to check in regularly ask about the eaglets when they call. I agree that this has been a gorgeous experience. I hope our little eaglets (for they truly are all of ours) have long and prosperous lives. I look forward to next year's hatch.

[and Richard thank you for the initial post and link which got us all hooked]

ETA- the time difference makes this a 'sometime' watch, as when it's dark there, it's dark.

There has been one baby sitting on the branch screaming his heart out for the past 20 minutes or so.... None of his sibs or parents seem to be answering. Sometimes growing up is tough.

Oh, good grief, s/he is still at it. It is so obvious, that it is a 'where's my dinner' yell.
Hey, it worked for the past two months, why doesn't it work now.

Dang, just like some folk I know.

There's a note on the board now that says: The cam will run as long as we see birds. When we stop seeing birds, the cam will shut down. So, the Friday shutdown has been averted, due to this little one hollering.

H/she has just hopped down to the nest but is still screaming like crazy. I wonder how they learn to hunt. No indication h/she's giving up just yet.

Well, looks like a sibling came to spend the night on the branch. I saw a parent do a fly by, but did not see any food being offered. Guess they might have eaten elsewhere during the day.

Busy times at the old homestead this morning. right now two parents and one eaglet are in view, with one (I think) on a nearby branch.

earlier, one of the kids was yelling loud and clear. I can understand why a parent would find such a cry for help/hunger almost impossible to resist.

Now we are have a parent and at least two of the younglings on the branch. One keeps going back and forth to the nest, still screaming... If I could throw them a fish from Colorado, I would... I still wonder how they learn to hunt - if it's instinctive or if they watch the parents. These parents seem to have the potential to be excellent teachers.

There is still plenty of activity at the ol' tree branch this morning.
A guest book is available until later today, or until 5000 signatures
have come in. (I was around 2,300 just now).

The link is here if you want to comment.

Meanwhile, back at the nesting tree, the bald eaglets are still in evidence.
One just few back and seems even more sure of his/her wings now. However,
it's still yelling for the lunch truck.

In Iowa now, it's getting close to dark. What will tomorrow bring for these younglings?

fascinating story.

somewhat later: There's a veritable cacophony of noise from the youngsters.
A parent came by, and flew off at once.
To get food? One hopes so.
All three of 'em have showed up now. Hurry up, mom/dad!
