I've been watching every day, but today they almost seem unrecognisable. I can't believe how much they've changed in one day.

A bit of an update: The eaglets are 15, 14 & 11 days old today. The factoid on the screen says
they can thermoregulate at 21 days.

They've lost their natal, fluffy down and have some gray down and definitely look 'bottom heavy'.
Maybe that's where their crops are? feisty little guys and still, oh, so cute. Mom looks a bit
harassed, (but maybe that's anthropomorphizing) and the whole scene, as they are about to go to
infrared is just amazing.

I love the eagles

I'm only seeing two eaglets...??????

But I think how mom/dad keep fluffing the nest and waddling into it - even though the kids refuse to sit under her - is adorable.

The social stream was going crazy earlier when the third one disappeared from camera view. A lot of people thought one had fallen over the edge. Amazing how many people love these little babies!

The three eaglets look great. The growth rate of birds is amazing.

those eaglets - and their parents - made it through another day. Fascinating. (But you knew that)
The kids were sprawled all over the nest today, but now are corralled under a parent (I can't tell which one)
for the night. Not that all parts of them fit underneath, but apparently enough is there to keep them warm
and safe. While cute - how can they not be - they are not the sweet little fuzzballs of only days ago.

What will tomorrow bring? Stay tuned, or better yet, just get hooked on watching the action.
The are in infrared now. Color returns with daybreak.

Morning fact - taken from the viewing page:
Those little babies are between 2 and 3 pounds now and measure about one foot, "beak to tail."

Gives a little scale to what we are watching, doesn't it.

those babies are big

I have been watching the Decorah nest with total fascination (for over a year now), but was also checking in on a nest here in Colorado. Sadly the Colorado nest has failed. These babies were a couple of days older than our Decorah eaglets. One was lost during a cold spell when it couldn't yet thermoregulate. The other two were lost Wednesday night during a fierce chilly rainstorm - It can be a very tough life for baby eagles. Makes our Decorah babies all the more special.

edit to add: here's a link to the RRP blog which appropriately discusses issues relating to intervention vs. non-intervention and nest failures....Notes from Amy

That's so sad!!!

That is very sad. But it made me remember the snow storm last year with the decorah eagles. Both parents stayed in the nest sitting on those babies, keeping them warm, and the parents covered in snow, sopping wet.

The decorah eagles seem to be incredibly good parents.

Yeah for our eagles!!

I'm dying. Kids want to get under mommy, and she can't figure out how to fit them...

Ah, yes. Deb, I checked, it is not necessary to say more.

Whoa - it's a wet and windy day at the Decorah Eagle nest this morning.
Somehow all those not-so-little eaglets have piled under Mom - but she
is getting plenty of the weather.

Their feet are soo big

I have recently learned that Great-horned owls can take Wild Turkeys. And, there is the Philippine Eagle which eats monkeys. In addition, a Black Vulture may have taken my nephews small dog from the back yard in Austin, TX. Nature is rough sometimes. Makes "swimming with the sharks" seem like a romp in the park.

It's raining in Decorah, Iowa.
The camera / view looks like an impressionistic painting come to life.

Kids!!! If it's sunny, they can't wait to get outside. Now that it's raining, they're all fighting to get under mom :-)

She is the very definition of stoicism.
