This all sounds like a nice idea, but doesn't every time somebody who needs help in a certain area of photography or post-processing that posts on the message boards get tremendous feedback and help by many others in open? What does 1 on 1 offer that the mass help doesn't? I can understand the 1 on 1 thing on a certain image that somebody wants to enter in a challenge and needs some feedback without revealing it to the public. Anyway, just wondering ... not really trying to put down your effort :) Welcome back, btw!

Oh bummer, there always has to be one of these, sort of questioning the idea. Oh well. You're probably right, and yet, I wish that things weren't always questioned.

It's a different kind of thing. Instead of working on specific images or particular details of processing, this relationship is more ongoing and holistic. The student is able to absorb more of an *approach* to the area of concern, is able to work with the teacher to evolve an effective *process* rather than just individual *solutions*. It's very rewarding.

I've actually been doing quite a bit of this over the last couple years on a one-on-one basis with particular DPCers who have sought me out, and we've had some success. It's good when every now and then a more organized approach like this galvanizes a larger segment of the community, puts the possibilities out there and makes people aware of them.

It's actually this sort of stuff that DPC does best, when we stop ranting and bickering and return to our imagistic roots :-)

I can probably help out with closeup photography, nature and otherwise, natural light, photo-impressionism, stuff like that.

I'd be honored to be your student. I could use help not only on editing, but also on close ups (macro) and natural light as I prefer natural light to artificial.

I recently mentored a person who now exceeds my DPC accomplishments... by far. Not sure it had anything to do with my help. She bubbles over with talent.

Would be okay with me to try this again. I'll mentor one person who is interested in landscape and wildlife. Must be a DPC member.

I have PS CS5, shoot with a Canon 50D, and have a variety of lenses.

Linda, would you consider taking me on...I'm thinking we could learn alot from each other...even though you have a (cough...cough) Canon. I think we like alot of the same format in pictures...what do you think

on the students list - I'm down for editing, but I would also love to improve on my macros. If Roz is interested in teaching, I'd love to be her student as she rules when it comes to macro bugs! So, please amend the list to show me down for macro, and/or editing.

Janine if you're up to teaching an old lady new editing tricks I am game! Even if you do shoot with a Nikon (gasp!)

We did something similar last year and I think it was very productive. I think I can qualify for the teachers group in some areas.

I guess my strong areas and/or interests are street portraiture, cars, aviation, old dilapidated stuff, and I also like abstract photography. I gravitate toward quirky stuff and I totally LOVE goofy faces. (Should I say something about enjoying long walks on the beaches and long insightful talks?)

PaintShop Pro is my weapon of choice, so I won't be able to offer software-specific tips to photoshop users. I do use several Topaz plugins and Nik Silver Efex.

Yah, and *I* claim the credit for starting her out, then hooking her up with Richard for a course of study more specific to her physical location. She's a great success story... And she's hooked up with ANOTHER success story and the two of them hang out virtually and make mockeries of our puny efforts, dang them both :-)
