Less than 2 months!! (I had to boast here as I consider it a rather incredible run of luck! :)

Re 1x, not sure. With too many rejections I feel totally frustrated and will leave 1x for now. I entered my last image last night aptly called Leaving. Expecting rejection any time later today. They come fast.

PS I did not have any entry at DPC since Friday (my time) and I am missing the Update button! :) It is definitely an addiction!!

haha.... Wife took the baby, so I went over to the local wakeboarding park... I really just decided that I was going to enjoy the day, not worry about 1x, and just focus on learning something :) ... and learned allot. I got some great shots in the process too... Here is the sequence that I shot today. I've never tried it, and this was the first one... Although I didn't leave enough room for the landing, I've got more sequences to go through.

So all in all... today was very productive for me, although not productive in the 1x sense, sometimes its good to just go out and enjoy yourself :) Who knows, by the time I'm done editing, I may have something interesting for 1x anyway... you never know...

Well, I really like this shot... I'm not sure that its 1x, and would most likely get rejected, but I like it... What do you guys think I could do to improve it??? I have a color version that I like too, but I think I like the B&W better. My goal for this trip was to really try to capture some emotion from the riders and I think this shot captured that. I haven't even gone through half of what I shot, but so far, I really like this image. So what are your thoughts on what I could do to improve it... Thanks

I just counted all my 1x rejects - there are 98 of them. So my last Leaving image will be #99. Interesting coincidence.

When I first saw it I thought it was a miniature. The light is just so surreal.

There's a strong horizontal line in the upper right part of the sky. Cloning from the edge, maybe? Also something funky going on the upper right sky, too.

To my eye the scene looks a somewhat dead. It needs an element to breath some life into it. Maybe it's due to the fact that it is a set and not real. The water towers look like they are a painted 2D piece.

Who knows, maybe that will work at 1x. The colors and shadows are nice, but it's missing some authenticity to connect with the viewer.

As usual, just MHO.

Wow, that's a heck of a lot of entries in a very short space of time! I have entered only 30 in 4 years of being on 1x. Perhaps take a bit more consideration to what you enter? Do you really think you have nearly 100 entries that are that good that they should be published? Sorry if that sounds harsh

I did when I entered them. Now I like only a few of them. I guess the more I learn the more self-critical I become.

PS I know of people who have had as many rejects as I had in the same time frame. It might depend on how many photos you take.

PS2 Always hoping for the screener to fall asleep and press the Publish button by mistake :) (just kidding! it must be a pretty boring job!)

BTW Margaret, 500px is not the place to go if you want feedback on your images. It's merely a place to share.

Ignore, I will work it out myself.

Cool image...left comment...;-)

Hey thanks for the comment, I meant to respond sooner but I am at work... I'm thinking I may try playing with the light on the riders face to bring out some detail... I've got allot more shots to go through tonight so hopefully I'll have something there to submit. If anything, I had a wonderful day there and I feel like I have learned so much. If I showed you my shots from the last time I went there, you wouldn't even know its the same photographer. Having said that, it may take a few trips there, but I feel like a 1x shot is there for me.... Anyway, thank you very much for your comment, its greatly appreciated :)

Should we start another side challenge thread called, "Who can get the fastest 1x rejection???" LoL... I'm fairly confident that I'd have a shot at that... I once had an image rejected in just under 8 and half hours... Can anyone beat that???
07/12/2011 09:38:48 AM · #265
i had one rejected in less than an hour :)

maybe i'll try and enter something, gotta look through the potentials.
07/12/2011 11:27:51 AM · #266
I would prefer a quick reject over the last one which took 9 days to reject. After 3 or 4 days your hopes get up thinking it'll be published.

Just got my rejection on this one:

I think I'm going to sign up for this site. I've got plenty of material that could be rejected by them.

Agreed. I'm on my fourth day and it's starting to make me twitchy. My hopes aren't up though, I'm just waiting for the reject.

I submitted my highest scorer yesterday and I am still waiting. I'm not keeping my hopes high, just wanted to try. Don't want to waste my one photo per week, right?!

Anyone had any luck??? My wakeboarder shot got rejected which I figured it would so no surprises... I'm hoping to get out sometime this weekend to do some more shots and see what I can come up with...

Did you submit it without the borders? The 1x rules says no borders allowed.

What we may want to do is have a look at successfully published portfolios of artists who specialize in their genres to get a good idea of not only the caliber level but also so we may appreciate and learn from the differences.

Why not learn more about the community from which we seek acceptance and learn and grown?

For horse photos, I always deeply appreciate the work of Milan Malovrh:

Amazing Horse Photos

Others that may be worth the time to go through that Steve Hill recommended to me are:

Architecture or Decay imagery by Sven Fennema

Portraits by Dmitry Ageev

Has anyone else found a portfolio they've found inspirational?

good idea Mae!
to add to this list, I love street work by Tatsuo Suzuki
