So, my husband calls in to tell the radio station it's my birthday today (he even had them say my age over the air)! I can't be too mad at him though because I won tickets to the Royal Gorge. I am not sure exactly what the tickets are for, but from the website it looks like I will have plenty of photo ops there. Maybe we can even go down in the gorge and ride the train.

Anyway, has anyone been there? Any lens suggestions? Any must sees?

Yeah, I've been there, but they didn't have all this theme-parkiness about it when I was there, I guess 40 years or so ago. It's a hell of a bridge and a hell of a sight, I know that much. Can't help with the rest, though.

I was actually there in May during my Honeymoon, it was about a 3 hour roadtrip from where we stayed, but well worth it! We got there basically after everything closed, it was about $15 for each of us to wonder around aimlessly. We stayed for about 2 hours until Sunset.
The only Lens I really used was my Tokina 11-16. We didn't really get a 'great' sky/sunset, but was still very happy. Once I get off work, maybe I'll post a few shots.

On a side note, we were the ONLY people there, so we had the freedom to go anywhere we pleased without people everywhere, which gave us good shots using the Tripod and remote shutter.

Happy Birthday and enjoy the Gorge. It's a great place to visit.

Edit: Be sure to walk across. And walk around to get the bridge from all angles. In the middle there is a "No Fishing from bridge" sign. Always fun to get a picture of that. As for lenses, I'd say take at least a telephoto and a wide angle.
