I think we need to pick a location that's both inside and out. Maybe the zoo? I haven't been in ages.

Every time someone mentions going to the zoo, this scene pops in my head.

That's a good suggestion. We will have to see what's going on at the zoo in January. I don't remember too much inside places except the bird house and the reptile house. But I am open to seeing what is going on.

Another suggestion is the Museum of Modern Art. We can also go up Kelly Drive or across to walk the Schuylkill trail and shoot the Water Works, Boat House Row, Etc. We will have to come up with a list.

Eastern State Penitentiary has a one hour guided tour in winter. They allow photography but no tripods and you have to shoot so you don't hold up the tour so everything might be a little quick pace.

They do have a number of houses (kind of like warm rest stops between outdoor exhibits). There's the aviary, the reptile house, the rare mammal house, the small mammal house and the monkey house. And ticket prices are reduced then to $14. I'm not so sure about hanging around any of the rivers in January. I need a place to warm up every so often. LOL!

Love to join in. Hopefully it won't be too cold. I'm getting old so in is better or a combo. Thanks!
(Tampa sounds like a great idea but it's probably not going to be in the budget.)

Count me in for now too...we (girlfriend's birthday the 13th) may even stay over the night before..maybe we will get a warm snap...and it will be in the 40's!! :-)

I think the Reading Terminal Market might be a winner... no cost to get in, $4 parking for two hours. A flickr Gallery of it's own so I think it may be photographer friendly... plus shopping for culinary delights!!

Plus there is ton's of Architecture outside. Check out Panaramio for photo's.

I would strongly recommend this site!!! What is everyone else's opinion?

count me in!

also anyone would like to car pool from Pennington/Trenton, NJ area feel free to reach me!

my vote is the art museum area and boat house row. The zoo in January will be limited in exhibits and i think the aquarium is a tough place to shoot.

it may be chilly outdoors but at last the photo ops should be plentiful.

What about penn's Landing area?
11/11/2011 09:37:51 PM · #13
My wife lived at 22nd and spring garden, near the rocky steps. Great neighborhoods over their, the old prison, then through love park to south street. Wish I could join you.

Remember, we're talking January. Penn's Landing is usually deserted that time of year unless there's an unusual warm spell. ;D

We could just all meet at Dave & Buster's though. There's always some characters there. Like Robert, I'm better with inside or a

combo of in/out that time of year. Reading terminal is also not so great in January, not much going on except people eating lunch. If

it was December it would be different.

Was down at Reading Terminal Market today scouting it out. There are lots of photo opportunities there. Also around the area including Independence Park, City Hall... all kinds of things to do. Taking a classic skyline shot from South Street Bridge... The sky is the limit... Avenue of the Arts is another suggestion... We have another month to decide so let's get some more people to join in and then get some concensus on where to go.

I also checked out the occupiers at City Hall while there. Just drove by a few times though.

At any of these location we would need to either find a parking spot to cover max or try to do car pool :)

Not a problem, guys!

You gave me some nice ideas on interesting sites... I might be going to the penitentiary, then maybe spend some time around the museum and downtown, weather permitting.

Take care!
