Adobe is releasing the Beta Version of PS CS6 for Beta Download. The Beta is available for MAC and Windows.

Didn't see this posted on the forums anywhere else.

Enjoy, for those that play in the Beta Version!

Sweet! I'm going to play with the content aware move tool!

Pretty awesome. Only bummer for me is, it didn't automatically connect to my Niks and my Topazes etc etc. Gonna have to do all that manually... That content-aware move tool is hysterical.

So happy about the new crop tool!

Content aware move works really well with a blurred selection outline.

I was hoping they'd move the new crop style to ACR though, but maybe they will?

Going to give this a run when I get back home next week. I'm still working with CS4, and wondering if it will be enough to coax me into upgrading.

Some good videos on its new features:

I enjoyed the camera raw video the most.

Here's another set of CS6 Beta Preview videos

I downloaded the beta but haven't installed yet. I need to clear a full day to play!

Does the beta only work for a limited period or is it free to use forever?

I'm sure the beta will expire after the release of the final product.

Mine told me it would expire 60 days from install.

FWIW, When you are editing a video, *don't* go to File->Save for Web...

It will lock up the system.

I've been having a play with the beta, and I must say I am smitten. It took me a little while to get the interface configured the way I wanted it, but once I did, I was in love. Barring any unseen roadblocks, I will most likely be upgrading on release. The hard part will be continuing to work with an old version at work, for now.

Me too! Love it! For some reason, it's running my Nik and Topaz plugins MUCH faster, for one thing. The new crop tool is a MAJOR improvement. The content-aware moving feature is terrific. I'm sure I'm gonna fine much more to like. Now I got 56 days to figure out how to afford it...

I was working on a relatively large pano yesterday evening, 13 layers, about 100Mpx, and it was fast, so it seems the underlying code has been optimized. I know they take better advantage of the GPU than with previous versions. It didn't complain, even though my GPU is on the anemic side (they recommend a minimum of 512MB of RAM, mine has 256MB). All in all, the performance amazed me.
In general the user interface changes seem to be very well thought out, and intuitive. The default "tabbed" view I'm not so sure about yet... I switched the preferences to open in windows by default. I noticed that when an image is displayed in a window, a right-click on the title bar once again gives you access to the metadata or the image size information, one thing that I missed in CS4.
I too love the new crop tool. It took a bit to get used to doing it that way in Lr, but once I got used to it I wondered why cropping didn't always work that way! The other thing I really like is the dynamic display of the width and height when drawing a rectangular selection.

That came in on CS5, once I got used to it I love it.

Lynda.com has new features in CS6 covered in a set of free online videos by Deke McClelland.

After having used the beta for nearly a month now, I can say that I am definitely going to upgrade to CS6. There have been so many very positive changes that I think it is a no-brainer. I really like the interface changes, which were the one thing that I was stand-offish about before I tried it.
I absolutely love the fact that now the crop tool works the way it does in Lr; once you get used to the Lr-style crop tool, there is no going back! I have not tried out the video features in CS6, since I don't have a camera that does video at the moment. I'm thinking about grabbing a waterproof camera that does video prior to a vacation we have booked for June, so that will give me the opportunity to play with the video features over the Summer.

Do we have any clue when it's going to be released?

thanks!

btw -- if you are doing educational pricing, it looks like you can save $50 if you buy cs5 now -- before May 6.

The educational pricing for CS6 is listed at $249, but you can buy CS5 now and get a free upgrade to CS6 for $199.

I think I'm going to go do it.

Per the launch announcement, availability will be "within 30 days" so this isn't so much a launch as a "countdown." I suppose it builds hype and sells pre-orders, but you have to wonder why folks would pre-order something they have to pay for now but won't get for as much as 30 days? What's the benefit of pre-ordering? There doesn't seem to be a discount for doing so, so I'm left a little confused ;-)

I bought it, but because the educational price looks like it's going up $50. But if I bought it now, supposedly it's a free upgrade.

Interesting! For some educational users, then, it seems to make sense... did you buy CS5 now with the promise of free upgrade to CS6? My son has an educational license for CS5 that he purchased in August, 2010... I wonder what his upgrade cost will be?

I've never found and upagrade cost for educational, i dont think it exists. I think they're selling it so cheap that the dont do a deal on the upgrade.

I owned cs4, so i bought cs5 online today with a promise of a free upgrade.
