Hey Folks,

I have found myself in the situation where I can buy a new Canon 5D mk2. I already own the Canon 7D and love it. It is serving me well. I shoot landscape, Wildlife, portraits and occasionally 2nd shoot a wedding, but not that often.

I am facing a tough decison whether to buy the Canon 5D Mk2 as a second body and compliment the 7D due to full frame capability. However, take away the full frame and there is little benefit over the 7D and i'm worried it will get little use in the grand scheme of things.

My other option is to forget getting a second body and upgrade my gear. I would have approx £1500 to spend either way so new glass, bag, filters, tripod etc.

I've spent about 2 weeks going around in circles thinking of the options and it's now time for me to make a decision and I would love you folk to help steer me in the right direction.

As always your opinions are appreciated.

GLASS!

I think the 5d mk2 is a superior camera to the 7d. I think you will want to use it a lot, with the 7d as your backup.

It sounds like you are an advanced amature, and as such have very little need for a second camera of that quality. Unless you are a professional whose career depends on still being to be able to have a top notch camera in a worst case sceniro, i would definately spend the money on glass. If you cant do without a camera in the event that something happens to the 7d, i would by a used 20d, 60d, etc.

Getting 5D as second body seems rather pointless and very expensive. I have 2 bodies now - 5D and 550D. I use 5D most of the time except when I need two lenses and then use either 70-200 or 10-22 on 550D. 24-105 is my most used lens so far. I love the image quality of 5D.

I use both a 7d and 60d and because of that I'm going to bring up a point that may or may not be relative to you.
The 7d has 19 focus points and I shoot by selecting the point I want.
When I use the 60d (which is a fabulous camera) I really notice the lack of focus points.
If you are a centre and recompose guy then it's not going to worry you but if you have gotten used to the 7d you may find the AF of the mark II lacking.
It's not a deal breaker but something to consider in regard to your shooting style and what you shoot.
Would this make you grab the 7d over the 5dII each time?
If so maybe you would be best off going for glass and update to a 5dIII in the future.

Hey folks - Thanks for the responses. I have taken your advice and gone for glass. I just purchased a Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro USM IS L lens. Also going to purchase a 10 stop ND filter and holder and some other goodies.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks.
