I love your images, there is even a background I recognize!!! =)

As others mentioned getting some audience, votes are appreciated if you like the picture!

I really like the quality at 500px, discover some amazing work everyday!

Ok, I noted that the extra attention isn't going to really help (much) a photo that's been up there for a month or so.

I just uploaded one of my most popular photos...so any DPC love would be appreciated to give it a kick start! (Actually, it's already got two favs, and I just uploaded)

Haha, Vikas I liked/favorited that image and didn't even realize it was a DPCer. That's a really wonderful shot.

Images like this always seem to do well, particularly when they're this good!

I've made it to //500px.com/photos?page=12 with a 96.7. Might creep up some more, but that's pretty good :)

Update: Page 10! //500px.com/photos?page=10 with 97.2

I have followed everyone who posted here and any other DPCer I could find. Have I missed anyone?

Well I was doing pretty well during my 10 hour rise...last I looked early yesterday evening, I was on Page 9 with a 97.3 or similar.

Then I looked at about 12:30 am, and I had dropped to 86.3!

Anyone understand how that could happen? Was it because people clicked "I don't like this"? I don't know how to check that.

If so, that would seem too easy a mechanism for people near the top to protect their positions. Not that they would necessarily do that, but it was a pretty big and sudden drop on what was a pretty popular photo (with DPCer help) for less than 12 hours.

Just curious!

it was explained in another thread and possibly this one that the rating scale starts at 500px start day which is 12:00am in some time zone, not sure which. you have 24 hrs to get as many votes as you can in that 24hrs and you keep climbing up the pages. once the next day starts all those image uploaded the day before, drop. and the newly uploaded images start to make there climb.

so you want to upload your image as close to the start day as possible and starts getting as many votes as possible.

Just faved, commented and voted.... see what difference that made :-)

I did read a blog post that talked about how the votes & what not help or hurt a picture but cannot find it. They try to not say exactly what happens to stop people gaming it :-) Dig thru the bog if your interested - I want to say it was last year sometime I read it.

Edit to add: If I was coding it then everyone would NOT have an equal vote... people with better scores and ratings would count more in my algorithm then regular vs new people e.t.c. I have no insight but I would not be surprised if that was part of it - in which case my vote just gave ya nothing :-)

Thank you! To tell the truth I didn't understand exactly how it works. I can see that each vote has a different (and lower) impact, but I don't know which are the difference (depending on who's the voter, when he/she votes or if he/she is your follower).

Wondering what people are uploading for sizes...I've been uploading reduced ones, partly because I don't plan on selling prints from that gallery based on their model, and partly for "security".

But it's a bit more of a pain to find the right size for the site otherwise (and without borders, which seem not to fit in well there. so it would be easier to upload full size images, if they downsize effectively and still look good.

What size are you uploading?

Thanks for mentioning the plugin, I wasn't aware of it. Lightroom plugins are handy. Though I had problems with export giving me an error after one upload (false upload I had to delete). Publish service did not correctly sync either. But then I did an upload with the publish service (which is uploading full size though) and that worked.

My latest upload...

My latest went up full size, I imagine, since the publish service on LR doesn't have a reduce option (as I mentioned, I did it once via export, but had to delete it on the site because I had a watermark set and it wasn't even the right one).

Anyway, full size seems ok. The reduction is at least ok, and I don't see any way anyone can download it.

The LR publish services are pretty cool when they work. Especially if you think you might be changing the shot (since then you can replace on the site easily). Though for 500px, I will likely only be uploading my printed work, and those are pretty much done and unchanging, so I may go back to exporting and reducing!
