When did vawendy get a dq for her emergency entry and does anyone know why the ribbons are not recalculated and the results moved up? This is the second one I've seen this week where ribbons have not been recalculated.

Maybe once the challenge leaves the front page recalculations are not done and images moved up but if this is the case I wasn't aware of it. Anyone know for sure?

Just received the notice about 5 minutes ago. I think I understand the reason, but I asked for clarification.

edited to add:

Usually things do move up. Maybe the SC does the DQs and Langdon has to fix the standings?

Thanks! I worked longer and harder on that one than any other image. :(

That totally sucks sorry to hear it

So again how long does it take to validate? A ribbon winner missed out on all that front page time and now gets none.

Oh, Wendy! I'm so sorry. I hate DQs. *sigh*

That DQ is baloney IMO.. Anyways still a great image!

Once a challenge goes off of the front page, Langdon has to set the wheels in motion to recalc (think squirrels in one of those wheels).

Sorry, about the DQ, Wendy. An easy mistake to make in Expert.

At least you had your cake and probably ate it too ;)

Neil -- was it because I thought that the small pictures were existing artwork, and grabbed something accordingly? I'd like to know the reason...

Yes, of course. All photos in your composition except for textures must be within the challenge dates.

But she, um, took pictures of the screen. Yeah that's it.

No wait. She was using them as textures only -- at 100% opacity...

That's what I thought. Yet the existing artwork rule states "Images that could be mistaken for real objects in the scene may also be included, but must not be so prominent that voters are basically judging a photo of a photo."

So just so that I understand -- existing artwork may be used, but only in a printed form being photographed, not in a digital form?

(It definitely sounds like I goofed and misunderstood the existing artwork rule, so I'm not fighting the DQ -- I just want to make sure I understand for the future. I appreciate the feedback, Neil.)

Congrats to todbedy for the red. Seriously, he probably deserved it more anyway. I simply invited squirrels to torch my computer, he actually cut off his leg! And congrats to judi -- awesome shot!!

wait, so why did this get DQ'd?

I had the shot all ready:

But then I realized that the left side showed my current entries, so I thought I should hide those, in case there was any doubt on who did the photo. :)

I figured they were just photographs, and that anyone who bothered looking would know that they weren't real entries (if they looked through the challenge), so I thought "existing artwork", and just grabbed some of my outtakes and plopped them in:

Seemed straight forward to me. But in retrospect, I guess I understand. :(

If i am not mistaken it is because she pasted existing (old) photos into the final image.

I would classify that the same as obscuring license plares and such to protect anonymity.

Correct. Artwork may be included in your capture within the limits of the artwork rule, but "Your submission must be composed only from photographs taken after the challenge is announced and before the deadline..."

wow, that's really ticky tack, but, rules are rules.

Yup. That makes sense.

Dumb mistake. It was a last minute "oh my gosh! My entries are sticking out for all to see."( moment. Thanks for the clarification, Shannon.

Wow, you were thinking straight (as always) and you still got nailed. I love your entry... really sorry for the DQ. I know it hurts:(
