Clouds. clouds. clouds. It was clear this morning. But no longer. I don't think I'm gonna get a chance.

Man. There's dust on your sensor. It's all over the sun including a real honker in the upper edge...

Wait! Some blue sky. I might get lucky. Will it still be going on in 90 minutes? I heard it was six hours.

Here's one of the next series... a little better resolution on this one.

Yep, something like 6 hours.

Looks awesome...way better then mine. Thanks for sharing. I didn't get much response to my Eclipse photo. This is a more rare event and you've captured it advanced expertly!

Great shots!

It's another 5 hours before it reaches me - If I can wake up at 5am that is!

I saw the last one 8 years ago. So if I miss it I only have to wait another 115 years until the next one.

I almost like the sunspots more. They are amazingly clear. If I get a chance I'm going to shoot with my 100-400 without teleconverters and then just crop. Will be interesting to see if I can get anything that clear.

You should get close but not quite the linear resolution, though if your seeing conditions are better, you might be pleasantly surprised. Your 22MPx sensor will give you about the same linear resolution at 400mm as I get with the 1.4x converter (at 560mm). So under the same conditions, I can expect to get about 2x the linear resolution with the set-up I'm using.
When you shoot, use live view to focus, or use the angle finder C if you have it, at the high magnification setting. Once you have focus nailed, shoot four to eight shots in succession. You can then pick the best of them later. They *will* vary, due to atmospheric effects.

That looks amazing, I'm jealous! Mine have not come out nearly as well. Even with six stacked ND filters (11 stops!) it's very bright so I don't trust live view to focus. Without the lens stopped down I think it might burn the sensor.

Very nice! What filter did you use?

This is with a 7D, a sigma 50-500 and 1.4x teleconverter and a solar filter

Sun has set here, so I'm out of business! I plan on putting together a timelapse of the part of the transit that I saw, but since my timing between series of shots was haphazard, it's not going to be a picture of beauty, LOL.

Hey! I got a chance between clouds. This is what I got. I think Fritz' is better given his 400mm prime, but it comes close. This turns out to be a perfect 100% crop at 800 pixels. I used the 100-400 at 400mm with a 1.4x telecoverter (after all). I used a 9-stop with a 2-stop polarizer stacked so I could shoot around f/20 instead of f/40ish at 1/8000th and ISO 50.

Hey, nice result! Yep, you were pretty close, resolution-wise. Your sun image covered what, about 770px, and mine was around 1217px. Not really that big a difference in the grand scheme of things. It looks like your seeing conditions might have been a little bit worse, but not all that different.

Did a little more editing. I think this is better. Hit refresh if you've already loaded it earlier. I like the sunspots we all seem to be getting.
