At long last, you can now thank the users who put the extra effort into constructively comment on your images. If you find a comment helpful, just check the box beneath it! Commenting users will get +1 on their 'helpful comment rating'.

Your helpful comment rating will be displayed on your profile page (soon). It might also give you a few things in the future -- like sunglasses on your icon, for one! The plan is also to have your helpful comment rating help dictate your position in the Critique Club's queue. Who knows what else...

I highly, highly encourage you to go back and rate your past comments as you get a chance to do so. Please help thank the people who make this site so much better.

I'm sure many of you are aware that Photosig does something similar. Hopefully, our system is far less political and gives the commenter just the right amount of feedback for taking the time to comment. A comment is either 'just a normal comment' or a 'helpful comment'.

Enjoy the new feature, and happy commenting!

Drew

Edit... Can't believe I forgot to thank John Setzler and Ben Roberts for their help with the new system. John's idea, Ben's icons :)

i'll switch to explorer for now :)
01/13/2003 04:47:46 PM · #5
Using Phoenix (Mozilla 1.x based) here with the same problem. Thankfully explorer isn't available for my choice of OS.

Thanks for the tickboxes anyway, a great idea that'll hopefully prompt more & better quality comments.

It's been a long day, so just b*tchslap me if this is obvious.

How do we see what our ratings are? Can we?

i was gonna go check if it worked on netscape 7, but it won't lemme stay logged in, and i can't do anything at all.

i'll close this ie window for dpchallenge and check my cookie settings and whatever. brb.
01/13/2003 05:14:57 PM · #11
yeah. i had cookies off.

it works perfectly in netscape 7. go get netscape 7. it's exactly the same as 6, just a little smoother and faster and has more features.

(i feel your pain drew. why does anyone use netscape?)

don't make me go there after I've spent the better part of a day getting a web page using STANDARD, ACCEPTED CODE to look anything resembling the way it's supposed to in IE.

Update... comment ratings are now fixed for NS and Mozilla. I'm not going to complain too much, but I will say that those browsers are stupid :)

excuse me very much, but i've had netscape not treat basic html the same way on two different parts of a page, and the code was copied and pasted.

i've had it not do things like center tables, when i've told it to center 3 or 4 different ways redunantly and in various combinations.

granted, this was in the days of ns4. 6 and 7 treat things much better (read: more like ie). i can write a basic page in my head, and have ie display it exactly the way i want it to, and netscape will have errors upon errors. opera will usually do almost exactly the same as ie, as well. but netscape almost never does. 90% of the time it takes me to make a webpage is making it work with netscape.

i'm sorry, it just doesn't work right. it's slow, heavy feeling, stupid looking, and a pain in the butt.

Mozilla is probably about the most standards compliant browser there is - you have to draw a distinction between netscape prior to version 6 and after version 6, when it merged with the mozilla source tree.

Or you could go with the defacto standard approach and ignore the actual published standards, in which case IE is great :)

I use Phoenix mainly, and IE for brain-dead sites. I find that usually when one is broken the other works, but never have a 'totally pain free' day using one or the other.

I will partially retract my statement to say that Mozilla is considerably better than NS. Both have gotten much better in their latest releases. No more browser wars :)

OK, kick me if you must, but I think I am missing something - when I go to My Photographs, and click on a photo, the photo comes up, but not the comments. I have to go back to my photographs, click on the Challenge, then go to my photo in the list. Is this right??? I thought when we clicked on our own photo, that the comments showed up under it...??
Help me out!!

Try going to 'My Profile' and selecting the photos from there :o)

One other thing about rating comments - you can rate all the old comments that you have received in previous challenges, so please take the time to go back and rate them too ;o)

I'm using IE 5.5, and the ticks are not being saved with comments I'm rating. Does the system update as soon as I click the checkbox?

(slap me too, if I missed something through "my" speed reading) :-)

I'm using AOL 8.0, and same for me. Doesn't stay checked.
