I was able to save my photos, but I was wondering what anyone else has done in a similar situation -

Yesterday, when I was planning to dump my sdhc card to my PC and external hd, I found that the card was corrupt and missing three quarters of my vacation photos, my daughter's first day of 3rd grade photos, and the photos from a long weekend in Wildwood, NJ where during a momentary lapse of all reason my wife and I let our 8 year old daughter ride on the 100 foot tall "sky swing". Ohhh and a really cute photo of my dog sleeping upside down on the couch!

After trying a few worthless "tricks", I was resigned to the idea that the photos were gone, until I found software called "Cardrecovery". Not only was I able to recover everything that I feared that I lost, the program also recovered photos that were long deleted.

Not only was I happy that I recovered the photos, but now my daughter can't use "reshoot" as a reason to go back on the Sky Swing.

It is a relief when you manage to recover photos from a corrupt card.

However, I think the lesson here is to download images more often instead of leaving them on your card. I download after each days shooting and reformat the card, this way I only every stand to lose a days photos and they can be recovered with software. But, I don't risk it:)

One of the sad things about this whole thing is that I usually do transfer and backup on a regular basis. It's just that for whatever reason, for the past month I did not. I will certainly be more vigilant about it now though.

btw - I also had my laptop with me but ended up just using it to play freecell :)
