Anyone see this??

So, like, holy cow. Those are some awesome shots.

On the other hand, the voters can tell who owns each image, so it's something of a popularity contest too.

They also no longer have a forum...

ETA: Apparently they are developing one...

Plus you can enter anything to the challenge with no timeframe as to when you took it?

Yes, but due to the backlash of their loyal and vocal members (on Facebook) the forum will be reinstated next week.

Actually I think the whole site has turned into another 500px. Members can now upload 10,000 of their own images to their portfolio. The screening still goes as before but the published images are not distinguished on your personal portfolio from those you have uploaded.

There are a lot of very unhappy 1X customers posting on the 1X page on Facebook

Noticed that. You can't drum up entries of that caliber by having a short timeframe like here, but that's it then for a theme. Forrest, for example, is done, and likely so is forest path, trees, etc. Once a theme is covered there's no doing it again.

Huh... You're right aren't you? That seems interesting.

One thing they DO have right though is image size.

GOD I'd love it if we had full size images here.

I don't see it that way... someone might have several possibilities for a theme. Additionally, there will always be new folks to submit. And finally, if a them is run once, then again a lyear later, everyone has a whole year of work to, well, work with.

Yep, it's awful. Click on one image and you end up looking at something completely different. The whole thing seems very buggy. Lots of problems with the high res settings too.

Was kind of curious if it was easier to get a picture up in the competition, but I have no forest shots!!!

It's easy as it's not curated and the winner is based on the number of likes you get :)

no problem, there are even studio nudes in that "competition"

Yup. I was too quick and too dumb when trying. I ending upload one that has my dpc watermark on it!

Well -- that's one way of getting on 1x. You can be in the competition. It's on the page. (complete with embarrassing, competition watermark... :(

Possibly the problem lies with me, but when I click on a thumbnail the larger image looks horrible.
03/03/2013 03:41:37 PM · #23
No, not you Scott. There's a problem with the upscaling. Even if you have the upscale option turned off in your preferences it's still upscaling the lower resolution images to fill the screen, so the quality is awful. It seems really buggy this "upgrade"
03/03/2013 03:42:37 PM · #24
Oh and Wendy, after you've uploaded an image for screening or for the "competition" you can't delete those images from your portfolio :)

Thanks, Sarah. I've been particularly slow lately so it's good to hear this time it's not me!
