In the recent portrait challenges, I waited to vote until the last 40 minutes or so... As such I was unable to spend as much time with each photo or revisit them to adjust votes later...
My speed cost njsabs the blue. Now the shot by alexc is wonderful and I voted it highly (8) as it has the eye candy that you can get at first glance. Cute kid, bright eyes, catchlights, etc... But as the past day or so the winners have been on the front page, my eye has been drawn to the second place shot, which finished very close in score to the blue...
7.2782
7.2707
I remembered not scoring it poorly, but not very high either, so I checked and sure enough it was a 6. Had I had more time to look at it and appreciate the complexity achieved with the minimal ruleset and the wonderful result, I'd have certainly given it at least at 8 (if not higher).
Those two little points lost via rush voting would have switched the results as her score would have been 7.2857.
In fact just ONE point would have given them a tie at 7.2782.
Even worse... had I not voted at all (since I didn't have time to do it properly), she would have had a 7.2803 and alexc a 7.2727.
While I'm sure there were other voters who might have adjusted one way or the other and it's not solely my fault the results, I will try to be more careful in the future and leave more time to vote appropriately so at least I'm doing my part.
