Minimal rules apply.

Your amazing Landscape photo shall be totally sky-free.

That means no sky. Not even a mirror reflection of sky in water. Other than that single restriction, the sky is the limit.

You are encouraged to post a fully edited version in the Outtakes thread after the challenge has closed.

I like the idea.
Tuesday open challenge please (can't afford membership until July).

Be careful with the wording: "Land Only Landscape" implies no sky or water. The description only excludes sky. Assuming you DON'T want water, then:

"Your amazing Landscape photo must be totally sky- and water-free. Minimal editing rules."

What about trees? Or grass? Is it only rocks and soil? Oh its minimal editing? Never mind.

You guys!
Water is OK as long as it isn't mirroring the sky (no sky), that's why I left the part about no water out. Of course water is always reflecting the sky to some degree, the sky is always there, it colors the water. But using the water to mirror the sky to get around the restriction of no sky--not OK. I thought it would be interesting. The sky dominates the land, it'd be a challenge to get an interesting landscape without using the sky to do it. Doncha think?

I've seem some great macro-landscapes
.
and some great abstracts
.
and some fine landscapes without sky
.
.

It would be interesting to see what people could get without using HDR or focus stacking or anything but just the camera.
It would be interesting to see the fully edited version in the outtakes thread.

Why not change the challenge suggestion (in the original post) to say "No Sky Landscape"?

That makes a lot of sense.

Or "Noskype" for brevity ;)

yes

Could the rules also clarify if macro landscape is okay or not? If that is indeed acceptable for the challenge, some voters may penalize if it's not a traditional landscape. So having it spelled out may help for those who want to do some photos like the ones posted by pixelpig below.

This looks popular. I am thinking pixelpig should consider the revision suggestions to both the challenge title and the description and revise the OP accordingly. Perhaps ask someone from SC to change the thread name if she thinks that would help . . .

OK! I did it! Thanks for the suggestions.

Is macro okay? I know that some will want wide-angle traditional landscapes when voting. Just don't want to be penalized if I enter a macro landscape. :)

Changed the thread title to match the suggestion -- hopefully gives it a better chance of being posted unchanged. :-)

Thanks. Hope it comes up :) - though my options in this regard are always limited.

I thought about listing things that are OK, like macro landscape, food as landscape, abstract landscape. But then it gets so specific as to be boring.
I'm hoping for a good mix of all kinds of no-sky landscapes, traditional and non. More fun to vote on.

If a macro landscape is penalized by a voter, it would be more likely the voter had a narrow-minded traditional expectation for landscapes.
Not that the voter felt it was DNMC for the one challenge. And they would be likely to vote it down no matter what the challenge description says.
IMO.

But then I'd have to wait 6 months ;-)

Sorry to sound so hemisphere-centric ;-) I only want to avoid these snowverbearing landscapes we have right now in the northeast U.S. - they can be so monotonous.

Woot! Although I am disappointed to not see Minimal editing rules. [sigh]
