Hey dpc!
It's been a while since I last checked in but I'm back for some (self) promotion. :)
I am currently working with a great french photog's collective to prepare for an exhibition for one of biggest photofestivals in Europe.
The opening week from 1st to 7th of July will be filled with many events, an off festival and just lots of stuff happening in the city.
So if you are around make sure to say hi!

Chris

Congratulations, Christophe! If you get a chance, post a few pics here if you still have a digital camera with which to take snapshots! :-) Ever coming to the US?

Hey Deb! Thanks, well yes actually one of the series that will be on display was taken with an Olympus Om-d and I was quite fond on having a camera monitor. ;)
It was provided by Olympus and is unfortunately only a loan for the time of my stay.
I had two weeks time to prepare a series for a given topic so thanks to dpc I was glad to have had some experience with working on presure..ha!

About the US: my girlfriend just arrived in Columbia two days ago so I guess I should go, too. A boat and food for 3 weeks provided to cross the Atlantic since I will not be able to afford boarding an airplane anytime soon..

Free lodging in Los Angeles any time you want to visit! We'd have to get CorySmith out here, too!

So after a very exciting six weeks here in Arles I am leaving the city to go back to Germany (with stops in Marseilles, Paris and the Netherlands).
If anyone have a chance to come here the next year I can only recommend it. The festival is amazing and the city itself has a unique atmosphere, very inspiring and energetic.

I didn't get to see all the exhibitions (it's just way too much to see!) but here's the two artistis of this years Rencontres whose work I will remember out of the lot I saw:

Alfredo Jaar creates Images without Images. He uses media coverage, lighting and words in installations to create tension that goes way beyond the borders of photography. Though this is hard to grasp from a 2d screen I recommend visiting his homepage:

Wolfgang Tilmans' show "Neue Welt" was a slightly modified replica of a former show in the Kunsthalle Zürich with huge prints.
In my opinion he is one of the most honest and modern documentists of our time:

Oooh I'm very jealous of you just being there. I believe this festival was the first but has now spawned about 150 similar events. I will be attending the one in Ballarat next month, I first went 2 years ago and it was fabulous.

Congratulations Christoph, great images.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing bits of your adventure. I was hoping my first visit to Europe would coincide with the festival. Maybe next time, hopefully.
