I thi k tbe idea is to include tbe name of the DPCer you're trying to emulate. I actually like this idea as there are lots of us who are dismissive of certain styles because we don't appreciate the difficulty in doing them well.

found my inspiration.

wonder if people will recognize them? :)

Actually this challenge is an invitation to get out of your comfort zone first, the idea of following a style of someone else, I think/hope, is secondary.

I think that would cause irreversible damage to an already crippled DPC. ;-)

hahahahha

IMO, if you are going to do someone else's style, then I think it makes sense to have their name as the title, or how is anyone going to know whose style it is, hard to judge or merit. IMO

That's what I was trying to say. The title of the image should be the name of the photographer you're emulating.

That's what I'll do (or at least work it into the title) -- it will be much more fun that way.

I completely agree. I don't have time to view a couple hundred profiles to get some style I would like to try out. Instead I'm just ignoring that part of the challenge description.

I think I'll do something sorta new to me...

I've messed around with the style some - but for me it's pretty hard to find something that's completely different - I've tried to cover many genres here, so this challenge is one of those where I'm basically up for getting accused of doing my normal thing. So I've tried hard to ensure that I've borrowed something recognizably different from my usual, and I've tried to process it to be truer to the original that I would normally do.

Hope it's enough.

You can always pick this controversial photographer

Art Roflmao introduced me to his work.

*derisive snort* my style is a moving target, so think I'll just enter as myself.

Can anyone name anything that's NOT my style, going by my entries? Jejeje...

Huh! I am old. I am set in my ways. i only have time left to shoot in my own stylel Furthermore, I don't long to shoot in anyone else's style. I admit this is a formidable challenge. Good luck to the participants!

Heck, Richard, all you gotta do is crank out one of your patented mountain lake shots then liberally overapply some Viveza and some form of "glow" and you've got MY style nailed :-)

I was bold.

Simply hope it's seen as a tribute, and not as an insult upon the talent I have chosen to honor.

I think that's something many of us worry about. I'm sure you did a great job Cory. And Jan. :)

Mine is no where as good as the person I'm trying to emulate. I've tried 4 different times now, and I'm feeling bad about it! I really wanted to do it well for him/her. It's definitely a poor substitute.

I think that is the point of this very interesting exercise. Something another photog does as a matter of course is a total struggle for another. I'm having the same issue with my attempts. Mine seems like such a clumsy result...
08/20/2013 05:10:45 PM · #50
Yup. Emulating someone else's look is turning out to be far more difficult than simply creating the image in a way that looks good.
