First time I've had a hummingbird in my yard since we cut down the mulberry tree in 2009.

The best part is that I shot it from inside my breakfast nook. It's 18 degrees outside. The pathetic little furnace we have isn't keeping up, but it's still warmer inside than outside.

So what's the new toy? The bird, the feeder, or the 300 you shot it with?

The bird and the feeder. I've had all of the camera gear for at least a year, but no birds to shoot.

I love it! I miss my birdbath. Used to drink my coffee every morning, watching the little sparrows splash themselves. Enjoy your new toy!!!

Anna's Hummingbird, Calypte anna, adult female. This is a year round resident of your coastal NW area. Thanks for feeding this species in December.

Rare in my Colorado, but sometimes observed.

Yep, it's a female Anna's. Common as dirt on the west coast, but fascinating to watch regardless.

It's *very* cold here right now, and she clearly needs the food. She drank about half of the feeder by herself today. When she stops moving, she's puffed up like a little round puffball.

Have fun with your new toy! I can't wait to see some more pictures so we all can enjoy it too!
