(Q&A + Discussion Thread is here)

Want a free year of DPChallenge?

So, here are the rules, you will use the Advanced Editing ruleset to edit this photo:

(RAW located here)

You should edit this to your taste, while trying to get the most detail and character out of this photograph.

I know, it's a real challenge, but trust me, there's some very serious data hidden here, it's just up to you to extract it and work with it... In fact, I've already edited this myself, and was so shocked at the end result I wanted to open this up to DPC'ers and see what you guys can get out of it. My advice would be to go with the RAW, but let your own style and workflow carry you.

...

As for the jury, we're still forming up - you can bet that I'll have a small, but diverse pool of judges, so don't worry too much about catering to any specific tastes, and I'm trying very hard to pick a balanced and impartial jury.

Jury is confirmed, and is as follows:
Tiberius MAK Bear_Music posthumous FocusPoint
vawendy Alexkc

Some very trained eyes in that lot, and a whole lot of sensibility. Good luck to all! Some VERY impressive work in the first 24 hours!

--

Entries should be posted here, in the thread, and all entries are valid until Jan 5th DPC Server Time. (that means all day Jan 5, but Jan 6 is out). Each Entrant will title the official entry with "FINAL ENTRY - Cory's 2014 New Year Editing Challenge".

The winner of all of this gets their next year of DPC free. Non-members are welcome to play, but you'll need to have a DPC Member as a sponsor (or post an 800px image somewhere else that can link to a thumbnail) so your image can be posted here. (For those member sponsors posting this way, please title entry with "FINAL ENTRY(Username)- Cory's 2014 New Year Editing Challenge" and create a new post)

Here's a rather quick edit, just to show that there is quite a bit of detail to work with there. In fact, there's somewhat more than what this edit shows...

Great timing! My membership is due to expire on 12/31. Would be nice to win this one :)

Great picture, Cory. I decided not to fight the soft, pastel-like capture, and instead enhanced it. I rather like the delicate, fancy-china effect :)

Thanks for the opportunity Cory.

Here's a drive-by shot at it:

I originally took your image and I spent about an hour trying to do the absolute worst clone stamp removal of the incidental bird that I could. But every time, I'd look at it and think, I can do a worse job than that. By the time I was removing the bird with the smudge tool, other people had posted, and I changed my mind and did an actual edit that I liked instead.

Does anyone remember ppchallenge.com? (post-processing challenge)
smurfguy made the site. It was a lot of fun, had voting and everything. But like everything else, participation dwindled and sadly, it went pffft.

Anyway, glad to see this thread, always fun to see how different people interpret the same image.
