I am not trying to split the camps into "blurry, monotone posthumous shots" vs "soulless technically stunning stock photos"
(because 1)some of the best technical photographers here do black and white emotive portrait and street work and;
2) I don't have much proficiency at any style)
but- Is it me or are the shots of glass and liquid killing it score wise lately? People seem to vote them very high, but very few seem to enter them.

Can't do "blurry, monotone posthumous shots" OR "soulless technically stunning stock photos".
But then again, for one reason or another, I haven't voted on anything at all lately either.

Popularity would be their demise. Don't forget the Great Whine Glass Revolt of 2011.

Oh MAN!!! You don't know how much I've wanted to say that lately.

In fact I was going to start a whole thread about it. Actually I did, and then I deleted it for fear of retribution!!

I seriously was going to suggest, that we ban all types of glass/water spilling shots from DPC, please oh please...well maybe for a whole year, can we, go on!!!

We should never forget that people who vote are the same who can join the challenges - whatever it means :)

Sure!! Let's do that! As long as we can ban all the blurry, monotone posthumous shots at the same time! That'd be just awesome! Can we do it now??!!

Well, the PROBLEM is obviously the voters, right? And since they seem to be so resistant to indoctrination education brainwashing here in DPC, there's not much we can do. Unless... wait... I got it! Let's appoint a secret committee group tribunal to convene at the moment of rollover and physically REMOVE all images that even remotely resemble any images that have won any ribbons in the last 6 months before the voting's even started! THAT oughtta' level the field. And while we're at it, let's let the same gang determine which images are DNMC and get rid of THEM too!

This has gotten outtahand, and perhaps its my fault.

But discussion is good, no? Or should we never question winners because the populous has spoken and that is final?

My Original question/observation was...

It seems like glass shots win and place highly(thats what "killing it lately" meant-(killing being a descriptive way of saying doing really well),
so voters seem to love them-yet not many people enter them.

I meant no slight to the obviously technically proficient glass and water shooters.

I still like glass shots.
This got my highest vote in the Primary Colors challenge,

KarenNFld's was a close second,

These two are done well.

The ones on the front page are done really well and I vote them high. However, not all glass shots are done well and the scores reflect that. Then there was that backlash against glass shots a few years ago... Perhaps that accounts for fewer glass shots...

I think that's it exactly. It's not like we should all go buy some glass and get some free ribbons. I think we're just in the company of a few folks who really know how to shoot it in an amazing way. I have one or two wine glass shots on record on this site, and trust me they were in no danger of killing the competition :)
