Now that Cinco de Mayo II is over, I'm looking for suggestions to correct the hot spot in my entry.

Original was: (about 2.1M)
You know - that spot below and to the left of the tail of the star in the upper right corner.
The scene is carved in wood, with gaps in it. The hot spot is an ill-placed lit light bulb.
As MarkB correctly suggested in the comments, I could have cropped it out. So, give MarkB his due, let's set that aside. What I want are suggestions on how to fix the problem and leave it in (let's pretend it isn't near enough an edge to crop out).
What I tried (I don't think I have to say how successful it was - not sure which variant I left in the entry):
I tried use Topaz ReMask3 to isolate just the hot spot, and then darken it.
I tried selecting it and using dodge.
I tried using curves on the remask layer.
What I would like to have been able to do was simply make it look like the other spots visible through the holes in the design. I was able to use dodge or curves to dampen down the overhead fluorescent light in the back ground, but when I get a hot spot like this, nothing I do seems to work.
BTW - I use PaintShop Pro, so general ideas would probably be most helpful, rather than specific Photoshop steps.
Thanks.

Leave it in, it adds realistic character to the image.

Something that size I would clone out entirely. Or using the clone stamp, I'd use darken and select something next to it. But I think leaving it in wouldn't be an issue either.
