It has been tough for me to keep my computer and external hard-drives running smoothly at home - mac laptop hooked to 2 external drives, monitor, mouse, and card-reader gets clunky. I can't really justify (or afford) new hardware. Obviously the more photos I take, however, the more storage is needed.

Also of note, my Lightroom libraries are not very organized and I'm looking for a solution that allows me to better organize as well - and the cloud seems like a good place since i can organize from any computer with internet access - God-forbid something were to happen to my hard-drives or computer or time-machine or whatever.

So I'm thinking of using Smugmug as my image storage/backup. Currently a "Portfolio" level user (150$/year) which allows for unlimited storage and selling of prints.

I'm a little hungover so maybe this is a dumb question that only I can answer - but any thoughts on this method? Any flaws I might be missing? I realize I can not store RAW or uncompressed files … it will be all JPGs. I suppose that is one major flaw. Other than that, I'm thinking it is a no-brainer.

Thoughts?

Have you looked at zenfolio.com? I've not looked at it from a "storage" standpoint, though I do seem to recall a message that I can now upload RAW files.

(Shortened long backstory -- I was with SM for years, my rate dramatically increased one year so I begrudgingly switched to ZF. I sale just enough online to pay my subscription fee, but if you want a referral code, I can give you one. I'm please with ZF's customer service, and some of the things they actually do better than SM did at the time I was there -- though they may do them well now.)
