Yikes, what a crazy drop. I'm used to first day drops by now, but this 0.7 points down since I woke up is a bit excessive.

Sounds like the voters think it's the last day of voting. I'm glad I'm not in this one. Yesterday was bad enough with Patterns.

My 'meh' image isn't yoyo'ing. I guess I can look at the bright side about my consistent low score.

Mine is right where it should be at 5.3+ - well, maybe it could climb to 5.5 and I wouldn't complain :)

It has been a brutal drop for me since this morning. I truly hope cutout does not Vanish.

You know what? There is a great negative incentive to not vote. Seems like the general voting level for good images continues to be much lower than previous times. So, if I vote and comment like I have forever, my voting scale will grant more than half the images a vote above 5.5000 (the average) with a few 10s, 9s and 8s. That would reward the good images with great scores. I tell myself … this is good character building. But, some of the participants are not voting. Some are voting much lower. My relatively higher votes (although only a normal distribution around 5.5000) gives the advantage to the people who may be tactically "deep-sixing" my image, or sometimes the advantage goes to those who have learned they place better when they don't vote. It's complicated. But, the joy of voting great scores for great images has been dampened.

I vote an image high if I think it's a good image. I don't care if I have entered, or not. If an image meets the challenge and is reasonable it gets a 6 and I go up from there. I occasionally give out 5s and even 4s. That's just me. I feel if someone has gone to the effort of entering there is some vallue in their work. I don't give loads of 10s but I do give them.

Not possible. He'll be cut out.

You're all just spoiled.

If your score started off at 4.1 like mine, there's only one way to move. It's at 4.4 already, so I'll hit 7.2 just before December.

Leave the voters and voting system alone, rather help me figure out how to delay rollover for 10 weeks......

I guess this is a good score these days. Ha, ha, ha. This score, unfortunately, is considerably below the average of 5.5000. There was a time, before TPL, when it would have scored a full point higher, or more. There is something very wrong with the voters these days. I like my image very much and it meets the challenge very well.

Scoring is a very personal and subjective value that one allots to a photo.

I know for a fact that I am in all probability more critical today than I was when I first joined DPC since I am not as easily awed as I once was.

A score of 5.5 is the median of the score values and may have no association whatsoever with the value attributed to images by the average voter.

While you are truly justified in being very proud of your image, that does not necessarily mean that others have to... since liking is also subjective.

On a recent minimalist challenge, you indicated that you really liked my entry, as did I... sadly, most of the voting public did not agree and I did not fare well. You have an unbelievable assortment of scenic shots and some truly magnificient wildlife images and I have a full appreciation as to just how difficult it is to capture images of birds and the like in the wild. Sadly, a good segment of the voting population do not and the ensuing results are that they tend to score those a lot lower than what the images (IMHO) truly merit.

As they say "C'est la vie. :O)

The important point I'm trying to communicate is that I have evidently been voting wrong, when compared to the votes being delivered by the current slate of voters. The average score of any particular challenge should be 5.5000. And, a normal distribution of votes around 5.5000 would be my style. That's always been my approach, but it is out of sync with DPC voters today. So, what am I supposed to do? I guess I prefer to stop voting rather than adopt a "beggar thy neighbor" voting style.

If you vote in accordance with what you earnestly believe the image is worth...then you are definitely NOT wrong.

I personally never compare my vote with that of others since I am convinced that I may not share the same level of appreciation or dislike that others might have for a particular image.

If you are honest and consistent, there is NO wrong voting method.
