Not complaining, but I just tried 1200px at my own site. Looks I've have some work to do, some rescaling I think. The image fits on a 1280x1024 screen, but there's no room for any header or footer.

Bear in mind that you don't HAVE to enter a 1200px image. Your entry could be 1100px or 1000px if that works better for you.

The size police WILL be lurking to ding you I fear.

With a larger size, there's definitely going to be more thought given to sharpness and noise reduction since it will be more visible.

Amazing what you could get away with at 800px.

Can we have an EXPERT challenge right away? That would be great, thanks!

This is good news, couldn't have timed rejoining as a member any better.

I wonder how this might impact page loading? We have a slow internet connection (DSL) and have to wait for pages to load sometimes with the current limits ... now with up to 700kb? I guess time will tell.

I predict it will take twice as long.

Isn't that amazing? For a landscape photographer, the significant improvement is that, with the 800px image, the image had to be "crunchy" to preserve a semblance of detail: at 1200px, it can be sweet and smooth...

Viewing on my laptop in Firefox, I have to scroll to see all of the big one. Is that how it's meant to be?

No, but we can't be sure what's working on portfolio images is the same as what'll be happening in voting. Certainly, on my TABLET it resizes to fit within the screen area, and it does the same when I shrink my viewing window on the laptop, so I'm not sure what's happening to you. Try it on Chrome (what I use) and IE and see if there's a difference?

Reloading the page fixed the problem.

I'm really excited!! And a tiny bit disappointed! But really excited!

My umbrella shot would have been way cool at 1200 pixels...

But it gives me a new shot of shooting adrenaline. It will be soooooo nice not to have to crop for DPC. When I resized my photos, so many times I would have to go back and crop horizontally because I just lost too much in translation. It will be cool to basically keep it the size to which I've edited!!!

Hurray for Langdon!!

Well, they are PROCESSED differently, so yes, there are slight variations. On the 800-pixel image I used more sharpening, so the 1200-pixel one looks a little softer when viewed at 800... However, when comparing the resized image to the original 1200-pixel version, they seem the same to me, at least when allowing for less detail at the smaller size.

Certainly, I'm satisfied with the quality of the resizing.

i saw zero difference on a tablet. does that mean this change, for voting purposes, is just for the huge of monitor?

Well, I have a Nexus 10, very high-definition tablet, and the 800px images are TINY on it, so the 1200px looks a lot better on my tablet, but that's gonna vary for sure. Certainly, those who vote on small screens are not going to see much of a difference, but the rest of us will anyway... It's kind of a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

I still entered as the 800 on the current challenges, LOL I just saw this but I am not gonna spend time re-sizing things right now but this is AWESOME!

My free study entry looks better at 1200 while my "C2K" entry looks better at 800. lol

I promise not to complain, even though I was perfectly happy with the status quo - but this is going to slow down my voting significantly, I think. I use a full sized monitor (24") and generally the numbers pad but sometimes I use the cursor and the numbers under the image. Either way, looking at the vertical here and if this is what I see once the change goes into effect, it is going to take me several times as long to vote on a vertical image as on a horizontal image. I don't see that this will affect my score on the image itself, but I do see that it may affect whether I feel I have time to vote or not. I don't like to vote unless I have time to vote the entire challenge and go back through at least once or twice to reconsider and bump. Am I missing something?

this is not complaining, but simply pointing out.
