Eventually, if not immediately, we'll get this resizing thing worked out and this will not be an issue.

I have to scroll, as well, even on a larger monitor. I already decided awhile ago, that even though I'll use the 1200 horizontal, I'll still limit my vertical shots to 800, because I think people won't necessarily bother to scroll if the picture doesn't look interesting enough to warrant the scrolling.

If the picture doesn't look interesting enough to warrant the scrolling, it won't make much difference if you go with 800 or 1200px, right? So you may as well go 1200 for the people who DO think it looks interesting enough to scroll.

I won't vote on an image if I can't see it all at once.

I have a touch pad, it's easy to just pinch the image until it fits the page.

John, your pics are better off in a smaller image; stay with 800. Only printed they would look better in a large format IMO

Maybe I just don't know what the average size is for monitors on home pc's but it just seems strange to me that with 22" monitors going for less than $200 that this is even a topic of discussion.

Maybe you just don't know the "real" state of the economy ... I have several working (old) monitors, and I don't have $200 to spend on a new one just to see tall pictures, even if y (even older) computers could support a large monitor, unless you want me to see your entire image at once in a glorious 256-color gamut ...

I'd like to point out that this was one of the main issues of contention discussion in the numerous threads about whether or not to enlarge the image size for entries, and one reason the change was so long-delayed.

I don't know about the economy, probably more about priorities, what you feel like spending your money on (using "you" in the collective sense). I have friends who think I am weird for having dual 24's on all three pc's in my house but they all have 60 to 80" flat screen tv's

Yeah ... scrolling to vote takes away from the presentation / image impact for sure.

not about the money necessarily. I have a galumphing 24 inch monitor and still have to scroll.

I'm so used to putting images in my workshop and uploading them from there. The resize happens automatically. Now they will resize larger. How do I know?

Ok, well, size and the resolution you have it set at, you can have a 24 but if the res is 1024x768 then yes, you'll be scrolling. Mine are set to 1920x1080 so they look great to me.

a vertical resizer along with the horizontal i guess. a maximum size of 1200/900 would also work.

My point is that there are a lot of people who must prioritize rent, utilities, and food over a new monitor ...

i had to scroll on vertical pics that were 800px so scrolling on one that is 1200px is fine with me.

I wouldn't skip individual images. I would skip the challenge, until I was on a platform that could see all images.

I think this is right... it's the 1200 tall that forces me to scroll... I have MAC 21.5-inch monitor.

This isn't about monitor size. I work on a 27" samsung. Native resolution is 1920x1080 so 1200px is going to make me scroll. With 800px tall I had to scroll unless I hit F11 to remove top and lower stuff on my monitor.

on most browsers to resize the image to fit the screen one can press control and roll the mouse wheel.

At first when I submitted my 1200px image it fit the whole monitor practically,(monitor is 21 inches) now when I go to view it, it shows up on the screen large and then automatically shrinks to the same size it always was, albeit the quality is still pretty good, how could that be. I'm not scrolling or using the mouse at all to make it fit the page!!

I noticed similar behavior.

I'm interested to see if there will be more landscape oriented images entered. Most of us are vertically challenged.
