Deviant Art

I have been getting addicted to the actions and presets for brushes on that site.. Some of them are really bad, but there have been some really good ones as well.

I am having issues with a few of the actions though because I have been playing around, not sure if I am using them right or if there is an issue with the action itself but I get these errors that certain actions are not available to me.. So I don't know if it is because I have an older PS or if it is something wrong with the action itself, I have the PSC5.

All I do is hit the play and it goes.. Is there something else that I need to be doing to make it work right?

I won't upgrade PS quite yet though :-0)) I am really starting to get used to photoshop and all it can do, having a blast with it at the moment.

Also if you have a site which you enjoy that seems to be better with actions or presets please let me know.. Free the better :-)

I don't even know what actions are.

It looks to me like the action was supposed to create a layer for adjusting brightness and contrast, but for some reason did not do so. The action is trying to activate that layer and failing. You can click the arrow nest to the action to expand it and see what the steps are; they are not too difficult to understand. You might be able to figure out where it is failing. Correcting it might be a little more difficult.

The link you posted goes to a domain that's for sale. Might need to fix the link.

As for the actions, are you invoking them on a background or adjustment layer? Most actions need to be on an image layer, and usually account for the background layer, but that could be one of your issues.

If they're current action sets then it's possible that they are designed around features introduced in CS6 or later. If they were then they're backward compatibility should be noted on the site where you downloaded them.

I am editing photos I took for a friend at the moment and the action is what I want for an adjustment layer kinda like a top filter of what NIK analog does.. there was a certain look that I wanted.

When I clicked on the link of where the error was and tried to see those steps with the little arrows next to it, it didn't do nothing but say it was unavailable again and no steps were shown, but I could hit continue and it would do the next action. It seemed to work with the filters though.

How can I tell if it was for a current feature? that totally could make sense on why I am getting that error too.

Sorry about that link here is the right one :-))

Right link

Can you post a link to the specific action you're trying to use? Or PM me with it. I'll see if it works for me with CS6.

A lot of these are rather old, so it could be that the Adjustment type it's trying to use may no longer be available.

For the curious, I believe most of these actions are expecting a flattened image to start with. Executing against a file without a literal "Background" layer will cause some to fail. Others will fail if they are started on an image already containing an adjustment layer called something they want to create. Others fail if not started on an image layer in "Normal" blend mode.

I've asked Julie to try flattening the files she's working on and saving them as a separate document and then executing the action. I suspect they should work for her then.
