21_N.gif jmritz has entered 1,000 challenges. If you think of each image as the fragment of a dream, or a jagged crystal teardrop, or the playing card of a game you don't know, or a face that has just turned away, or a piece of broken glass from a television that played the first live Beatles broadcast, then together in one place you have a story, not the usual story, one of those stories you get lost in and, if you're lucky, don't come back from.

Say what you will about DPC, it is the storehouse of a thousand ritzes.

I wish my "bad" photos were that good.

You forgot to mention you're a member of the 1000 entry club yourself -- congratulations to both of you!

Easily my favorite photographer here. Has anyone else done expert the way John does expert?

The first thing I do at the end of a challenge is to go and take a long look at John's photo, by far the most inspirational of us all.

I do that too. Inspirational is an euphemism.

And me; I start reading at the back page. Usually stop there as well. John is the most thrilling, genuine artist-with-camera DPC has ever had. In a field of me-too photo hobbyists he sticks out like the balls on a bulldog.

Agree with everything said so far.

One of my all time favorite photo essays is John's April essay.

And, as if John's photographs are not enough, he titles each with the most beautiful poetry

Don, wonderful poetic writing for the artist's artist 21_N.gif jmritz. I admire how he brushes off the naysayers and happily goes about his business. John's got eyes!

I could post a million (okay maybe only a thousand) examples of his work and not be able to explain just why it affects me the way it does. It's more than seeing, it's heart.. and soul... and done in a way that it seems so effortless.. and endless. I never tire of looking through his portfolio. It's just one little gem Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1031351.jpg after another Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1009207.jpg ... and they always meet the challenge Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_987592.jpg .... though you may have to think about it sometimes Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_986702.jpg. Check out the titles too.

Hard to choose one image in particular since they are all part of an ongoing story about time lost and retrieved in small shreds, people seen through his own looking glass often misty from who knows? ..tears or from a little accident of a spilled coffee cup, palpable intimations or little signs of forewarning, of impending danger... (Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_955432.jpg

I do not like all John's photographs and on occasion I asked him quite impertinently why he let this or that image get out in the world ! The nerve! I expect no less than sheer perfection!

Not all his images are blurry as some people seem to think - look at this one (if Caravaggio would have had a camera this one could be his photo):

and some "look" blurry but actually they are crystal clear in their meaning

We know he can photograph birds and animals and ordinary objects but even these posed for him as for nobody else:

And yes, I do agree with Christophe on this one:

Go on John, continue, surprise us more!
