I'm going to be stopping in Seattle for a few days next week before heading back to Hawaii and wanted to know what DPers that know the area recommend. Not just photography spots but also general things to do and must-eat places as well. It will be my first time there and will mostly be using public transportation and maybe renting a car for a day or two.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

hmmmm Kerry Park is the goto spot for the typical Seattle Skyline.

If you got some money to spend and want a great food with outstanding service, I'm a fan of Palisade

For cheaper foods it's hard to beat any restaurant in the Pike Place Market, FOR SURE get some mini donuts at "The Daily Dozen" right near the entrance.

Personally I would avoid the Original Starbucks, to me it's way to crowded all the time unless you just want to tell people you went there.

Hit me up if you want someone to shoot with for a few hours.

Hey, thanks Jason for the suggestions. I'm supposed to be within easy walking distance to Pike Place Market so will surely be going there a few times. Anything to do with donuts is great by me, hehe. One thing I wanted to look for was a really good italian place since Hawaii has some pretty crappy ones, and hopefully a really good sushi place, I'm always up for trying fresh fish of the area.

I'm traveling with another photographer so will definitely be up for getting out to shoot as much as possible. I'll drop you a message to see when you're free.

Don't forget Brent Smith. Though he's so busy. But he might be up for a gtg.

I haven't lived there for a decade but my favorite Italian spot, by far, was Machiavelli, in Capitol Hill. From the market you can just walk up Pine, and it's on the right once you cross the 5 (not frogger, there's an overpass).

Alibi Room was a favorite of mine in the market area. It's across from the bubble gum wall, just down Post Alley from the pig and fish mongers.

I'd take a ferry to Bainbridge. Great views of the skyline, Mt Rainier (if out), and a nice trip all around. Once there you can walk to the Public House for good fish and chips and a nice beer selection (I don't work there, it's just a decent way to spend a few hours).

Into live music? I have many suggestions in that department.

A lot of people really like Wasabi Bistro and although I've never been there I have heard good things about Altura for italian.

I'll be in Seattle myself in about a year, coincidentally.

Anyway, my son lives there. His GF is a long-time resident. Want me to see if they want to show you around? They're like-to-have-a-good-time people, and my son works in the restaurant biz...

Another interesting but "touristy" thing to do is to take the tour of the Seattle Underground. There's also a pretty good Science Center and Aquarium. If you have time I agree a ferry trip to get views of the skyline would be good, if the weather cooperates.

Oh and after yesterdays horrific crash, I would probably stay away from the Duck Bus tour.

Yeah, I just read that on the news this morning, really sad accident.

Thanks folks for all the suggestions. I'm only gonna be there 4 days so really gotta strategize on how to squeeze as much in as possible. I'm definitely hoping to get some bar hopping and live music in at night as well...oh, and of course a good FS shot for Oct. ;)

Gasworks park can be nice. Freemont if you are there for a weekend festival. UW has some interesting buildings. Pioneer Square is interesting from both buildings and people. Belltown section for younger crowds. Pike Market is a staple

Food: depends - Sushi is excellent in many spsots

I'll offer you the same deal I offered Mark. Let me know when you're coming and I'm happy to show you around. W/ or w/o a camera in hand.
