Ok, so I get that my subject might not be 100% sharp but my photo is artistic and interesting so Im not sure why it did so bad... will someone give me some critique please?

I agree with Oliver.

It's not a scene... it's a product shot. And the product has to be tack sharp if it's a ring, especially so. I'd have cloned out the dust... and perhaps cropped a bit to really let us see your product.

The colors are pretty as backup.

To me the lens that you have used it a not designed for this kind of work (as far as I can think), you would need a macro lens. Keep aperture 2.8 but I would do with manual focus, first focus some part from the front then take shot, then focus next bhind the first focus area then take shot, keep changing focus area and keep on doing for say 10 shots and then stack them into single shot and apply bland. This would bring in the sharpness and ring would look much better and at the same time you would have nice bokeh too.

This is all valid in advance editing.

Sometimes what does well in DPC baffles me. Other times, not. ????? I think your shot is lovely.

You seem desperate to win a ribbon yet have only entered a handful of challenges in 8 years.

May I suggest you study previous winners and enter more for a better chance of attaining your goal.

Click on the next two pics in line that come up on your portfolio on that image page.

These are two portraits that are lovely & clean; very much in focus, great lighting, rich color, and defined subjects well placed.

Look at both of those images, YOUR images, then look at this again and be honest with yourself.

You do better work than this one. Move on to the next challenge.

(Currently sitting on a 4.1xxx in Architecture, but I know exactly why! LOL!!!)
