I'm in my kitchen -- I'm looking at a scene with a black cat sitting in a window, watching a squirrel right on the other side of the window, in a large holly bush. The squirrel has grabbed a whole bunch of bright red holly berries and is eating them.

It is the ULTIMATE holiday card photograph! And it's dusk. No light. No possibility of capturing this.

Could I sit and enjoy the scene? No! All I kept thinking is what an awesome photograph it would be.

Completely ruined the scene.

Photography sucks!! :)

"When are you gonna take it? Sometimes I don't. If I like a moment, for me, personally, I don't like to have the distraction of the camera. I just want to stay in it."

I can't tell you how often I've just sat and enjoyed the moment knowing that.....

1. I could *NEVER* capture the grandeur and/or feeling.

2. The circumstances would never have permitted a photograph due to light, timing, whatever....

Sooooo....right there with that video clip!

I remember one time I was on the Oregon coast, and the wind was whipping by at 40mph or so, and about 20 yards in front of me were three seagulls "flying".

They weren't actually moving up the beach, it was like they just stuck out their wings and were just hanging there.

I took a shot of them, and when I got the film developed, I found the pic and couldn't figure out why I had this stupid pic of three seagulls just flying up the beach.

Then I remembered, and smiled......but nobody else would have known by looking at the print.

Sometimes a camera just doesn't do it.

Sometimes you just need to sit back and enjoy. Forget about capturing the moment and live it instead.

I take a lot of photos at gymnastics competitions every year, but 2 years ago I decided that I wouldn't bring my camera to at least one event. I just watch, and enjoy the amazing things my daughter and many other young girls can do. I don't regret it, and that feeling of, "I wish I got a picture of that" is slowly dying away.

Oh yeah I love that scene, I really love that scene!

My kids tell me this all the time when we're on holidays "mum put the camera away and just enjoy the moment", I wish I could and sometimes I should I know. When we were on the horn blower at Niagara Falls in October, I really wish at that time that I put my camera away. I must've taken close to 100 photos but I only really liked about two or three of them, one which I entered into a free study. But I can remember during the times I wasn't taking photos how much I was enjoying the moment.. the water rushing, the sound...the thunderous sound, powerful wind and getting sprayed. Then I remember looking at my husband thinking about how much he was enjoying the whole episode, not caring one bit about how wet he was getting and wish I could be more like that. Next time I'll put the camera away :-)

Wendy, you'll have to watch 'the secret life of Walter Mitty' with Ben Stiller & Sean Penn.

Not with Sean & Ben, with them acting in it.

My camera rarely goes out these days. Instead, I just enjoy seeing things. And that seems to be working out OK!
