I'm thinking once again about establishing a web presence -- something more permanent than Flickr slash whatever. Five or ten years ago, Godaddy was it, but now they seem expensive (and frankly, their owner/founder gives me the creeps). What are people using for cheap hosting these days with good uptime and support? I don't need much. I'd like to show off some of my recent street portrait work (and have a place to direct my victims). I'm also doing large format studio portraits.

Further, I want a dead simple Word Press theme that looks and works well with, you know, photos. Ideas? I don't mind paying a little if it's good (under fifty dollars).

Finally I need a domain. I'm trying to decide between the most obvious/most mundane (bvyphoto.com) or something more fanciful (time-to-shoot-you.com). Both are currently available.

Thanks?

I use HostGator and WordPress. Works well for my needs.

Indulge me. What's wrong with Word Press?

Not very flexible. Hard to export content. Lots of bits and bops that break unexpectedly during updates because code is coming from too many sources that may or may not be updating their own code. Plenty of other stuff that more-experienced users could add.

I've used namcecheap to register domains, but there are many other options. For my site I use Weebly. Dead simple, cheap and flexible. And the person who visited it liked it, so that's good.

I'm happy on Dreamhost, but you have to do some work yourself, so I'm not sure if you want that. Very good support btw. The Unofficial DPC Point & Ribbon Race is running on it and my blog.

its a blog platfrom, not a photosharing platform.

if you want a simple, inexpensive web presence, try squarespace. i've been very happy for two years now. ihear 500px pro sites are pretty good too it you just want to share with a pretty theme.

if you want to build your own, buy the domain name from godaddy and use someone like bluehost to host it.
