"Flora" refers generally to all plant life, not just flowers.

Alas, a general preoccupation with a project at home kept me from finishing my edit for this. I was hoping that I'd generally see something other than close-ups of flowers entered in this challenge. All said I'm generally disappointed, but in general not surprised.

Looking at the previous "Flora" challenges, this was somewhat expected.

Geez. Complaints already and a day hasn't even gone by. Such a sorry state we are in.
I haven't looked yet but I'm sure there is something in that gallery that will make me smile!

Based on my current score, the voter acceptance of the out-of-the-box approach is somewhat mixed. Some like it, some don't.

If I'm complaining it's because I did not get to enter a shot I took time out to get in an area that is currently still in the throws of recovering from winter (i.e. "Flora" is mostly "browna"). The rest is not a complaint, nor an attempt to point to any shoehorning of entries, but only a whisper of general disappointment in seeing so much of what is already posted here. What I love about the "challenge" aspect is the call to be creative around a topic, and part of what I cringe at is the search for the category fit in the same old photograph. Yes, this was obvious and not unexpected, but a person can hope.

And yes, there are some wonderful entries in the challenge, even among the expected.

Spring has sprung here. And while I absolutely adore dead flora and the tiny little spring green leaves, after a full winter, it's fun to go immerse yourself and enjoy what you have. And while they may be cliche shots, I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how one of the master's in this genre accomplished their shots. My arms are pricked, sore, and I think breaking out from an allergy to something I came across. It was difficult sleeping last night, and I have to be careful how and where I put my arms.

So while I didn't accomplish the master's shot I wanted, I learned a heck of a lot about how difficult these shots can be.

That's the joy of DPC. I'll be looking through the entries with a different base of knowledge and with more understanding of what's there. I'm excited to see what people were able to accomplish.

And even though I went cliche, I did look for the seed pods that are so wonderful around here. But unfortunately, it looked like that tree died over the winter. :(

Hooray for the people who try to be different! Hooray for the people who try to perfect the known! Hooray for the people who go out and take a quick shot and don't care (because it keeps you shooting!)

Nertz to the person who entered the photo of the octopus. That is NOT flora! ;P

This would be a good time to point out that you should be voting on images on the assumption they were legally created. There is at least one image that's clearly being stepped on by voters who assume it's not legal, but in fact it IS... Food for thought. SC can be relied on to take care of the "illegal" images when they show up. There are a lot fewer than people seem to imagine :-(

Of course with the auto-sizing mechanism in place the "photo has been validated" message is pushed out of the visible window, so you'd have to make the effort to check for it.

I thought the same thing! And... I wished I'd done her cacti image... as best as I could.
