While I agree that this is an extremely risk-filled technique, it doesn't take an idiot to completely burn something down. Had I actually turned my back when out shooting for this shot (story in my description) I may have set a rather significantly sized piece of driftwood ablaze in less than 10 seconds.



That piece of wood was adjacent to quite a few other pieces of driftwood, and next to a significant bit of forest... the significance of the averted potential aftermath has not been lost on me, and never will.

Know what you're dealing with when you shoot. It doesn't take an idiot to be momentarily stupid.

Wow, great shot. And what a story. Yes, it doesn't take an idiot, but that was a rather freakish accident. Unlike an open flame, that was an unexpected development. Actually using fire (which will throw off sparks, etc.), and not preparing for it (or at the very least, foreseeing there may be a danger issue) is a completely different thing :)
