So shouldn't it be Exhibit 4? Or is 3 and III not the same? ;)

You technical guys.....

All "real" artists received a memo weeks ago that 3 is the new iv. Draw your own conclusion if you were not on the distribution list.

I like the challenge description better on the 1st Exhibit III:

"Make a contribution to Modern or Contemporary Art with a relevant photograph."

:-)

Is this one "Juried" as well?

I like that this challenge description includes the word vote.

I wouldn't have minded if this challenge would have given us a couple of weeks to find some Fine Art.

I wish they would have made that a yellow-flagged rule.

[POP]

That was the sound of a can of worms :)

This will be a Furied challenge. Winners will be hunted down and vengeance will be wreaked upon them.

I did not notice it was "Minimal Editing." Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, well... I might just take a chance with the most extreme settings I can find on my camera. Why not?

why not indeed. that is my favourite question.

Careful. Not all of those fancy / extreme settings are allowed. :-(

Besides the "single capture" rule, what are you thinking of specifically?

When I read that I immediately thought of those art settings on your Sony that get applied after you've pushed the shutter and are non-previewable in live view...

Really? Too bad. So then just regular snapshots?

Well could I at least over-expose?

Contrast, white balance, over-or-underexposure, ISO, stuff like that, is all good. Double exposures, panos, snapchat-style grunge overlays etc, those things are considered post-processing and not allowed, even if done in-camera. Common sense would be a good rule to follow when choosing the degree to which you want to step on your image, simply because the voters aren't likely to be impressed by elaborate workarounds :-)

Sony isn't the only brand that has "art" settings ... I posted a comparison some time ago for the different manufacturers.

Personally I think choices made on your camera, WHEN you press the shutter button, and are applied WITHOUT any user interaction, should be allowed. My 2 cents.

Yes but you have a good point regarding what the voters will tolerate. Plain properly exposed normal shots. That's it. No pre-processing before pressing the shutter no post-processing after the shutter.

Hmmm ... if we're strictly following the "rules" ... it doesn't say anything about camera choices. Only that "your image as entered must be identical to the original image as it came out of the camera."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Requirements (Minimal Editing Rules)
You must...
create your entry in JPG format from a single capture. (RAW images may not be used in Minimal Editing).
You may...
rotate your image in 90-degree increments (90, 180, or 270 degrees).
resize your image.
sharpen your image using any global, non-selective sharpening tool.
fully desaturate your image using your editing software's "desaturate," "convert to grayscale" or equivalent function. Customizable tools are not allowed.
use a tool to remove sensor dust, etc from your finished image.
You may not...
make any other adjustments to your image than those listed above. This includes, but is not limited to, cropping, adjusting brightness, hue/saturation, levels, curves, etc. Except as provided above, your image as entered must be identical to the original image as it came out of the camera.
add a border to your image.
add text (including copyright notices) to your image.
I'm thinking of the DNMC voters, not SC.
